baby passport photo
did you get a photo taken specifically for this?
We have one photo that faces front perfectly, but he's got bare shoulders in it. Does it matter?
kind of like the avatar pic, but he's smiling in the other one and looking straight.
one more question...
open mouth ok? Ughh, I don't have any pics of him straight faced, he's either smiling, eating, or screaming

Re: baby passport photo
I think that is fine. We ended up just taking her to Walgreens to have them done though because I had a hard time getting the passport sized photos printed out. Basically, since I went to a few drugstores and they take passport photos, they wouldn't print mine out.

Re: baby passport photo
We got her pic taken @ the post-office, filled out the application, paid... all in one place. Much easier.

Re: baby passport photo
I thought the pics had to be taken at an approved place b/c they need to be a certain size. Cvs, walgreens or the post office do them.

Re: baby passport photo
You can use your own pic, but there are requirements. I was just looking into it myself because I'm renewing my passport and possibly getting DS his.
Must be a plain white or offwhite background.
Must be facing forward
Must be neutral expression (for a baby I'm guessing a smile or open mouth is fine, screaming probably not ok)
Then there's requirements for how light/dark, how much contrast etc.
But the cool thing is that they have an app of sorts to plug in your picture and you can resize it to make sure it meets the sizing they need.
Here's the list from the travel.gov website:
If you are applying for a U.S. Passport, you must provide one (1) photo. Your passport photo must be: In color Printed on photo quality paper 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size Sized such that the head is between 1 inch and 1 3/8 inches (between 25 and 35 mm) from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head. View the Photo Composition Template for more size requirement details. Taken within the last 6 months to reflect your current appearance Taken in front of a plain white or off-white background Taken in full-face view directly facing the camera With a neutral facial expression and both eyes open Taken in clothing that you normally wear on a daily basis: Uniforms should not be worn in your photo, except religious clothing that is worn daily. Do not wear a hat or head covering that obscures the hair or hairline, unless worn daily for a religious purpose. Your full face must be visible, and the head covering must not cast any shadows on your face. Headphones, wireless hands-free devices or similar items are not acceptable in your photo. If you normally wear prescription glasses, a hearing device or similar articles, they may be worn for your photo. Dark glasses or non-prescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless you need them for medical reasons (a medical certificate may be required) Glare on glasses is not acceptable in your photo. Glare can be avoided with a slight downward tilt of the glasses or by removing the glasses or by turning off the camera flash.
And here's the Photo Tool to match up your pic to the right sizing: PASSPORT PHOTO TOOL

We did it at the Hempstead town clerk. They do everything there, application, pic, and sent it out for us. I got it within 3 weeks.

Re: baby passport photo
We just took the girls recently (DD#2 who is 23 months) to the post office it was very easy, they had me hold her and she sat on a stool.
BTW if you have AAA my DH read after we have them taken that they do them for free for members.
