Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
How many of you had/have a baby in a one BR apt? How did you make it work?
LO is due in July, but we probably won't be able to move until December 2011 at the earliest.

I did it for 2yrs. I put up pressurized walls in my dining space to make a little bedroom for him.

My aunt had twins and a 1 year old in a 1BR. They put their cribs in a closet (with the doors off, obviously) put little shelves up in the nook, painted out the back of the closets. It was actually really cute.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
We have a 1BR that's on the large side. Our bedroom fits our king size bed, dressers, crib, and has a large 10 (or 12?) foot closet. We have an eat in kitchen so we use our open dining room area for toys, stroller, etc. Exercauser in the kitchen for when I cook or after he eats. Jumperoo in the living room, along with PNP (we use it as our changing table and to put DS in if we need to use the bathroom or go to the kitchen etc), swing, bouncer, rock and play sleeper... There's definitely a lot of baby stuff, but now that he's almost 9 months, we can put away his rocker, bouncer, and swing (don't really know where it's going though haha).
It works. It's not ideal, but we have enough room for now although we could REALLY use a lot more closet space with everything that we have. If you don't generally have a lot of STUFF, I think you could make it work. We figure once DS is walking, we should move to a larger apartment so he has more room.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
You just do.
My parents had newborn twins & a 4 year old in a one bedroom apartment (as they walked uphill both ways.. )
I don't think it's much of an issue until they start to move around.

DD's crib is in my living room. Across from the crib is a glider and a little lamp.
It is tight but we manage! The plus side is that she can sleep through ANYTHING since we watch TV in there after she falls asleep.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
We were in a tiny 1 bedroom at our old house and moved to our house when DS was 4 months old. We had a pack& play in our room but only used the changing table. I use my nichstands as his dressers and I had the FP Rock & Play sleeper for him to sleep at night. It worked for the first 4 months because he wasn't as active as he is now....even though I must say now I wish we were in a small space with him crawling around like a maniac.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
I've been doing it for 4 years. First DD was in our room. Then we moved to a bigger apartment and built DD a room.
It works for us.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
DS is 5 months old and we are still doing really well. We have a larger one bedroom and lots of closets - big ones.
We just try and make use of every available space. The first thing we did was a huge overhaul - got rid of so much "STUFF" and stored things we didn't need in the immediate future in my parent's basement. If you can make use of a family member's home it will help immensely. It makes us more efficient and organized!
Clothes that he has outgrown goes straight into storage. We have under the bed organizers and a large armoire we got at Ikea for all of his clothes, blankets, bibs, etc. All of his toys are organized in bins on our bookshelves as are his books. Our room is big enough that it fits this extra armoire as well as a full-sized crib and our king-sized bed. We also have organizers with drawers inside our closets. We added a bunch of hooks inside of our closets too so we could hang additional bags etc.
I gotta say, if we didn't have an apartment I don't know if we'd be this on top of things. DH and I were just saying if we weren't constantly moving small clothes out and bringing the larger ones in we would've lost track of so much of his stuff and they would've never gotten used!
Like the other ladies say, you make it work. We don't see ourselves leaving for at least another 6 months to a year (I am finishing up grad school, looking for a job and we need to sell).
ETA: For now, it works for us. It also helps having less space to maintain as well as no outside maintenance. Being a new, FTWM there is enough to do!! If I had a house right now I think it would be in shambles!

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
You become more efficient with your space.
We got rid of a lot of "stuff" and reorganized our closets before DD was born. We also kept baby furniture and toys to a minimum- i.e. we don't have a changing table. We spead a blanket on our bed and use that. I keep DD clothes in my closet so we don't need a dresser. We only had a jumperoo and not an exersaucer too.
You can make it work!

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
we have a large 1b.
Our bedroom we have 2 closets - I share one with dh now & dd had the other one.
She has a crib & changing table and our furniture is on the other side of the room.
I pushed our dining room table against the wall and her pack & play and jumper and toys are in that area.
I really was looking to separate the bedroom a little to give her her own space. maybe curtains or something.

Re: Baby in 1BR apartment--How do you do it?
I did it for 18 months. I put up a curtain room separater from Ikea so that he wasn't staring at us all the time. OUr dresser went in the living room under the tv to make more room. It wasn't that bad except that he didn't start sttn until he got his own room. Also, no changing table. We changed him on the bed and got one of the things you can carry all the supplies in. It was fine
