Baby eczema

My poor DD has horrible eczema.. Her ped thinks her cradle cap is causing it and wants me to use Selsen Blue and let the suds fall over her body.. I think this will dry her out more.. Has anyone ever tried this.. or has anyone used anything, besides steroids, that worked? I already have her on Nutramingen and i lube her up all day long with aquiphor.

i am not sure about the cradle cap causing the eczema... never heard of that but maybe.

i have read about people on this site using selsun blue or things like that for their DC cradle cap. I haven't tried it yet, but keep thinking about it.

DS is 20 months and has had eczema pretty bad. Right now we have it under control after doing the following:

first, we went to dr kristal. he changed our lives for the better! we had tried everythign before seeing him. he gave DS a prescription that we used as directed and now we just use every once in a while when DS has a spot of eczema.

We also -

use baking soda in the bath

use dove sensitive skin body wash

use cetaphil on his legs and arms (and sometimes face) daily ( i have heard thtat triple paste eczema cream works well but haven't tried it yet)

only bathe every third day (in the summer every other day)

take short baths

100% cotton clothing - NO polyester! this makes a HUGE difference for DS.

DS had eczema in his diaper area, as well. We only use wipes when he has a BM and in the morning. We use nothing on his skin except triple cream at night.

We have found that only Huggies work for his skin for some reason. we NEVER use any other diapers. OH, and huggies sensitive wipes.

we used aqaufor baby wash for the cradle crap... the american red cross sells a great shower brush that also helps..... my ds's dermatologist also had us putting baby oil on ds's scalp, letting it sit, and then washing his hair....

some things i did noticed that helped with the eczema was that we never used wipes on the face, aquafor ointment on the face, and limiting the contact people have with his face... meaning no hands or kisses on the face.... it was all good for him until the past month when his teething kicked up again and so now the eczema is worse then ever as a reslt of the drool

I tried the baby oil on the scalp yesterday and so far so good with that.. I used it on her body.. and the poor thing is ripping at her skin today.. I only bath every 3 days and use aveeno baby unscented wash and lotion. Ugh.. Today i tried using the regular A&D ointment on her chest since she was scratching like nuts and i left the aquiphor at my inlaws.. her chest actually felt smooth today..

I never heard of baking soda in the bath.. ill have to try that.. I tried oatmeal and i dont think it made a difference.. I read somewhere something about olive oil in the bath too.. Anyone try that?
