Baby clothes

I stored all of my sons baby clothes up to 18 months in the attic in a bag with moth bolls. I'm due in June. I just read this is the worst thing I could have possibly done and it's a dangerous pesticide. Would you throw all of the clothes away?

Washing them will not get rid of the gases.

..............

Naphthalene is absorbed well through the skin, especially in young babies. Babies less than six weeks of age are very sensitive to small amounts of naphthalene because they cannot metabolise it. They can get severe poisoning if they have skin contact with baby clothes and bedding stored with naphthalene. This means your baby would get very sick and take a long time to recover.

Washing the baby's skin or fabrics such as wool, with soap or detergent and water does not remove all of the naphthalene.

Looked it up and found this solution to it: Soak the clothes in water and white vinegar for awhile, then regular wash after. You can also add a cup of vinegar in when you wash them

I'd throw them out but I'm a little over the top like that. Not worth the risk to me. I'm sorry.

Naphthalene was traditionally used in mothballs not anymore. Probably just as bad though.

Yes, I found this:

In days gone by, mothballs were usually made of camphor.

Another historically important choice was naphthalene, a white solid derived from coal tar. Its odor is quite different from camphor’s, and it has crystalline sort of look. Most people would agree it’s nowhere near as pleasant-smelling as camphor, but it’s cheaper.

Naphthaline is quite flammable, so nowadays a lot of mothballs are made of the synthetic chemical pdichlorobenzene, which has a lower fire risk. I think it has the least agreeable odor. If you’re a man, you’ve almost certainly seen (and smelled) it: It’s used to make urinal deodorizing cakes.

God knows if the new stuff is just as dangerous though.
