Baby boy cries before urinating

But not every time....only about 3 times a day. My husband noticed that when he randomly cries for seemingly no reason, he urinates shortly thereafter. Of course now Im worried about a uti and plan to call the doctor but was hoping to hear your experiences in the mean time. Has anyone noticed this with their baby? He also cant stand a wet diaper. If he's sleeping he doesnt fuss but a wet diaper when he is awake is call for plenty if crying until changed. TIA

Not sure how old he is, but it could just be a coincidence...since they urinate so often, it could just seem like there is a correlation when there may not be.

ETA: maybe next time he starts to cry for what seems like no reason, take off his diaper (and just keep the firehose covered with a papertowel or something so you can watch, and see if he continues to cry, even through the urination). If he does, then it may actually be a UTI, if he stops before the stream, then I'd say more than likely the crying is something else.

Thank you for your respnse...that is a good idea and I will give it a try. He is 5 weeks old and not much of a crier which is why we made the correlation. Hunger and pee are really the only things that seem to trigger crying. Thanks again!

Was he circumcised? Since the OB does this, I would ask if he can take a look

Could it just be a coincidence that he's peeing because he's upset about something else? (and not crying because of the peeing but the other way around) DS seems to fill his diapers with pee more quickly when he's upset or something else is bothering him (teething, tired, upset, whatever) Just a thought.

No, neither of my two boys did this. It is definitely something I would bring to the doctor's attention. Let them check him out to make sure there's nothing wrong like a uti or maybe some kind of physical problem causing him pain.

Thanks again ladies! Yes he was circumsized but that seems to have healed up very well. Not that I would rule that out but on the exterior there are no signs of an issue. I do suppose it could be coincidence but I cant pinpoint any other reason for the crying during those times and on e he urinates the crying stops. He went to the doc yesterday and they took a urine sample. I will get results to orrow. If no UTI and the problem persists...the doc gave us the num fir a urologist. Today he both sat in a wet diaper for over an hour ( we were on the road and I didnt have an opportunity to change him ) and cried just before/after going. There was no rhyme or reason to why it was fine the one time and the end of the world the next! Going to keep digging...

Re: Baby boy cries before urinating

I am confused about something, just asking to clarify..a 5 week old is probably urinating randomly all day long without you even realizing it. How do you know he's peeing right after crying? I would never have been able to tell, they just pee here and there randomly throughout the day till eventually the diaper is full. Am I missing something??

No answers just yet though bis test came back negative for a uti so that is a relief. We are still trying to figure it out. To the PP who asked how we can tell...there are a few ways but the most obvious is the little yellow stripe on the diaper that turns blue when wet. There are a few i nstances a day where he will be crying for no identifiable reason. We check the diaper and the stripe is yellow. Suddenly he stops crying and sure enough we have a blue stripe. I thought it to be coincidence at first but it happens far too many times. Also...he does not like to sit in a wet diaper. That is another time he'll cry and as soon as he is changed the crying stops. So it's very rare that he is filling up a diaper (except overnight when sleeping for long stretches). Instead he normally has a fesh diaper on. He is a very habitual baby...likely due to mom and day being type A personalities...it's in the genes! LoL
