baby blues or ppd again?

I just had DS2 last Wednesday 9/7. With DS1 I had terrible ppd that I had to be medicated for. My mom has been in town for 10 days now and is leaving tomorrow and any time I think about that I can't quit crying. Actually I cry A LOT, over anything. Even when my 4 yo DS says he's gonna miss my mom or is upset over anything. I cry every time I even tell ds I love him. Is this normal for just a week after delivery? Or am I headed toward ppd again?

TIA for any advice

It sounds to me like the baby blues. I was like that when my mom went back to Florida, I cried pretty much on and off for the first couple of days that she left, and it got better from there. I've never had PPD, but I do have a history of depression so I know the difference and what to watch out for. I hope you feel better soon! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't know much about PPD, but I definitely experienced the baby blues after DD was born.

For about 2 weeks I would cry every afternoon around 6pm. All the hormonal changes, the pain after labor, breastfeeding, and the huge change in my life left me exhausted and super emotional. I totally thought there was something wrong with me and I was really worried it was PPD. But by 3 weeks I had stopped crying at the drop of a hat and everything just got so much better.

Hang in there, you JUST had your baby. Cut yourself some slack and give yourself time to adjust to this huge change in your life.

Keep an eye on your emotions and talk to someone if you find yourself getting much 'worse' or if you don't start feeling better in a month or so.

Same exact scenario for me, I would cry at night, I hated evenings and the thought of DH going back to work made me upset...I just didn't want to be alone.

Re: baby blues or ppd again?

I had pretty bad PPD after my first DS, but not with the second one. I was on the lookout for it, but it thankfully didn't happen.

I did get emotional and overwhelmed and cried at times. But it was different than the first time. It would come and go, whereas with my PPD it was a constant, prevailing feeling of gloom and doom that never let up.

HTH!

I had bad baby blues with DD for about two weeks after having her -- I wouldn't even eat anything bc I was such a nervous wreck! I am due to have DD # 2 any day now and I am really hoping it doesn't happen again!

First Congrats! I had my DS on 9/6!

I think you have the baby blues. It can start around 4-7 days after delivery, and last 2-3 weeks. I was crying over NOTHING! DH would say something semi-cute, and I would lose it! I miss being pregnant, and feeling baby in belly, but its is going away gradually now.

If you still feel crappy in another 2 weeks, I would talk to a dr. The best thing is that you are aware of how you are feeling and you know that you can get help if it gets worse.

I did read that the "baby blues" is a sudden onset of uncontrollable crying. It sucks, because when you don't cry easily, and then suddenly you can't control it, its strange!

Hang in there...this too shall pass...you baby is only 10 days old...and you went through 9 months of changes!!

Re: baby blues or ppd again?

Congrats!! I had DS #2 on 8/4. I had baby blues too... both times. Just now starting to feel somewhat normal at 6 weeks. Hang in there. It's tough, but it will get easier. Talk to Dr if you don't feel more yourself in a few weeks. Many hugs to you!

OMG... me, too. I cried at EVERYTHING, but especially at the thought of DH going back to work. I was questioning whether it was baby blues or PPD, too.
