Baby and One Bed Apt

Is there anyone out there who lived or is living in a one bedroom apt/house with a baby? Does the baby sleep in your bedroom or the living room? How has your experience been without having a separate bedroom for the baby?

When DS was first born we were in a 1BR. We moved to a 2BR when he was about 2 months old and then purchased a house a year later. If I had known that we were going to buy the house, I would have sklipped the move to the 2BR and stayed in the 1BR. We had his bed in our BR and it was fine. We could have made it work for the time frame that we would have had to. Even now, he is only in his BR to sleep and we could just as easily keep him in our room and he is 19 mos old. Toys are in our den and DR.

we have a 1 br. DD is 7 months now and her cirb is next to our bed. its easier to get to her but it has its down fall, we dont sleep train because we sleep in the same room and the crying breaks our heart.

We currently have a 1br and our son is 5 months old. I personally cannot wait until we have separate rooms. It was great the first few months, an if we ever have a second, they'll stay in our room the first few months too,
but going forward I can already foresee the problems. He knows we are right there so he doesn't sleep very long, for one. The other thing is the bathroom is also in the bedroom so we can't even go in the middle of the night without the fear of waking him up, lol. We turn in the bed, he wakes up. We sneeze, he wakes up. We got a light sleeper (like his momma). We are moving in the next 6 months and I can't wait to have our own rooms.

So it's doable, yes, but not always enjoyable.

we lived in a 1 bedroom for the first year and DD's crib was set up in an area of the livingroom we made to be "her space".

We were in a 1br when DD was born. She slept in our room, but had her own space. She was on one side, we were on the other. She was a light sleeper so we constantly were waking her up .

It's not ideal IMO, but it's doable.

My parents had 1 BR apt when my brother and I were babies. When my brother was born, they stayed with him in the bedroom for a few months and then they moved to a pull out couch in the living room.(He was a very light sleeper) When I came along, they didn't "trust" my brother in the same room with me until I was older so I slept in the LR with my parents. But I could sleep through anything... They moved us into the same room when I was 1 and he was 4.. We moved to a 2 BR when I was 3 and he was 6... It is doable....

DD slept in the LR until she was 18m. DH would come home late, eat dinner, watch TV and she slept through it all. She is still a great sleeper! I wanted our BR to be just for us and it worked out well.

We're in one now (DS is 21 months. We love our apt and our landlords are awesome, so we've stayed). DS's crib is in our room. Only issue is he yells to get into bed with us but he goes right back to sleep once he's in our bed.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback. Keep it coming please! I guess it is easier than I imagined.

We aren't pregnant yet, but will be TTC within the next year I think. And we're about to move...we really wanted it to be our last move for awhile (we're displaced sandy victims who are looking to rent - done w/home ownership) but finding a two bedroom where we want to be is proving challenging and I am on a deadline with my lease ending soon.

If you do your research, and co-sleep properly, there's so many benefits!! My DS is 4 and we still co-sleep! I LOVE it!!

We lived in a one bedroom until my son was 2 and half...he slept in our room most of the time we co-slept because my Dh worked late so it was nice

I have a 3 bedroom house now and the new baby still sleeps in the bed with me.

We lived in a 1 bedroom with 2 kids until they were 2.5 and almost 4. Our bedroom had a nook that we had a crib and put the dresser in the closet. When baby2 came he went into the living room for about a year. That didn't work to well and he ended up in our bed. We are in a house now

Dd is 4 mos. and we are still in our 1 bedroom co-op bc we are having trouble selling it. She has a mini crib with wheels in our bedroom and it is fine. We can wheel it out of the way if it gets in the way! Honestly, it is more the logistics (no laundry in apt, lugging her up stairs to second floor) that's much more interfering than the space issue!

When my parents had me, they had a 1-BR apt and my crib and changing table were in their bedroom from birth til one month shy of me being 3 when they moved into a house.

We were planning on doing it until about 2 months before DS was born. On a whim, we looked at a 2-bedroom in our building and wound up moving into it the next week...Best.Decision.Ever.

It would have been really tight in a 1-bedroom and we wouldn't have had room for everything we have now - like the swing and a glider. I don't know what I'd do without either of them, to be honest. Also, the extra closet in DS's room has been perfect for his clothes, extras diapers, storing the bathtub, etc.

It's doable but not ideal. We are in a junior four (so its like 1.5 bedrooms). I wish we had a bigger place. We fit everything we need but we are very cramped.
Dd slept in our room for the first few weeks and getting her into her crib in her room was the best thing we ever did. It's nice to have your own space in the bedroom.
,y opinion is if you are in a one bedroom and have no choice, try to find a corner in the living room or dining room and make it the babys space...crib and swing maybe.

DD is 2 mos and we just moved into our house this week. We closed on our house about 3 weeks after she was born. We were in a 1 bedroom before the move and it was not comfortable at all. We had her bed in our bedroom. That part wasn't terrible, not good, but not totally awful since she's so young. That said, babies have a lot of stuff. That part, to me, is awful in a 1 bedroom. We couldn't wait to get out of the apartment and into larger space. Do yourselves a favor and find a 2 bedroom.
