Baby and eating

My dd is almost 7 months. Has been showing all signs of wanting food. Then when I feed her, she refuses to open her mouth.

Suggestions?!

Baby and eating

Does she want to do it herself maybe?

I dunno. I've tried but it never ends up in her mouth. She'll eat sometimes. Ped wants her at 3 meals a day at 8 months. Yikes

Sometimes it won't matter if it ends up in their mouth... My daughter wanted to build her independence and confidence in attempting to eat herself. She would then let me feed her if she got to try it herself first KWIM? I did a lot of finger foods that wouldn't turn into a mess. The tiniest bits of pasta, chicken, etc. if it was yogurt, I'd let her hold the spoon while I held it at the same time. See if any of that works... GL!

What about the trick of giving her a spoon of her own to hold while you feed her. It didn't work for me when DD was that young but now she needs her own spoon and bowl if I'm feeding her. I wouldn't want to do it for every meal but you could also try letting her feed herself from a pouch. DD did great with that around 8 months when I was having a hard time getting her to eat.

Thanks. I'm going to try. I don't care if she makes a mess. That can be cleaned. I just want her to get used to eating.

It's just frustrating at times. I'm sure you all understand

Baby and eating

It took my DD a while to warm up to food. We couldn't get her to eat purees at first, so I just started giving finger foods and letting her go to town. It was definitely messy (most food ended up on her face/arms/the floor), but after a couple of weeks, she started to understand the concept of eating. Now, at almost 10 mo, she will eat purees, but also feeds herself, and she will eat anything! Give it some time and some practice, your DD will catch on soon enough

Re: Baby and eating

Try all different foods. My daughter does everything for my neighbor (who watches her), and fusses for me. DD is 10 months old. She fell in LOVE with sweet potato fries. (Who knew). She needs to do it all herself. All kids go at their own pace. It's all learning for you and her. Good luck and happy cleaning Chat Icon

Re: Baby and eating

I get that whenever I try with a spoon. She takes food from my fingers though. Try that! I think the spoon pushes it further into her mouth and she feels she can't control the food as well.
