Babies with reflux, going out?

If your baby has reflux, spitting up a lot, how do you go out?
I feel like I'm trapped at home because DS spits up his half his bottle while I burp him. And then Spits up the rest over the next 2/3 hours until the next bottle.
He spits up all over the car seat buckles.
We went to white post farms yesterday and he spit up all over himself and me. And then in the car seat.
Do I just make to sure to have lots of extra clothes and wipes?

Re: Babies with reflux, going out?

Is he on meds for it? An AR formula?
DD was like that but once we switched to an AR formula and meds the "volcano" spiting up slowed down a ton.

Re: Babies with reflux, going out?

My dd was a spit up machine! We always had a burly bib from Aden and Anais on her when we were out. It is big and drapey so she didn't cover herself in spit up. And I always had a few shirts that matched her bottoms so I could change her easily.

He is on Elecare. Only been 10 days.
(He is three months old, 1 month adjusted. He was born 8 weeks early )
GI wanted to address the possible milk protein allergy before addressing the refulx. We go back in a week. So hopefully we can get the refulx to reduce a little.

Bibs and changes of clothes. I never even thought to stay in just because DS spit up a lot.

Babies with reflux, going out?

bibs, change of clothes, wipes, napkins...

I never thought to stay in either my dd had reflux.

And ask the GI about meds asap. Elecare is thin and will come up more she should have put him on meds. Im not a dr so Im sorry that didn't come out right but my dd had milk protein intolerance and it exacerbated her reflux. She was on Zantac and Alimentum. Had a brand new baby within 1 week of getting on her both.
Before that it was 2.5 months of crying (her and me), lots of meds, lots of wipes, outfit changes, bibs and more crying (her and me) and loss of sleep.
Zantac is one that a lot of people use. Ask about it.

I am definitely going to ask about something for the refulx. The GI just wanted to address one thing at a time.
DS was on breast milk for 8 weeks then Gerber good start, then Alimentum. After a week on The Alimentum I noticed blood in his stool. That's when we went to the GI.

There has been lots of crying between him and me. I haven't completely stayed home. I do go out. But it's very hard and frustrating when he is spitting up constantly.
And there have been times when I am about to go out, put DS in car seat and he spits up. I end up crying and just staying home.

Re: Babies with reflux, going out?

DD has terrible reflux, so i feel your pain. Although it never stopped me from going out. Lots of bibs/burp cloths and changes of clothes.

DD is also on Elecare. I am hearing a lot that the milk allergy and reflux go hand-in-hand often. Elecare is like water, and what really helped DD is putting rice cereal in her bottles. She is also on Axid (3x per day) and Mylanta (2x per day). At 4 months, while she still spits up a lot, she's not in as much pain when she does. and now that that's getting better... i think she's teething!! ugh! Chat Icon lol

If DS isnt in pain from it, they may not treat it with meds. my DD was having choking episodes, and refusal to eat...we had no choice. cant wait to be off this stuff!

DS doesn't appear to be in pain when he spits up. It's usually projectile when he burps. The. It just poursike a faucet all day.

Babies with reflux, going out?

My ds used to spit up A LOT. When out running errands, I just kept him in his car seat to avoid being covered in spit up. I also have a million burp cloths. When somewhere nice, I use a swaddle blanket as a burp cloth...

His spit up has decreased recently at 5.5 months but he still has bad days). He lives in bibs...

Babies with reflux, going out?

My DD has awful reflux.. she is 4 months now and I don't want to start meds bc she is happy and gaining.. My dr recommends patience.. she said that's all you can do.. So I'm basically just used to being puked on nonstop and I bring lots of bibs, cloths and changes of clothes

We went through that with my DS. It was annoying and stressful. It will pass. Always have wipes bibs and outfits.
