Autism Article
Thought this was interesting. I should add I teach children with Autism. This isn't meant to get anyone to fight so please dont.

Very interesting. I wonder who would test the placenta though? Would they train OB's to do it or would you have to send it out somewhere? Guess we'll just have to wait and see where it leads...

Interesting....the only problem is that you wonder if some people are looking for a way to detect autism risk factors prior to birth in order to "avoid" having a child with ASD. If parents use this screening as a way to truly get the early interventions that their DC needs, then great! It's a scary thought what these "screenings" could lead to if parents had different intentions with the information they receive.

im sorry But if someone feels they arent capable of handling a child with special needs depending on the severity of the autism who are you to force them to do so? Are you going to raise that child for them? Im not trying to be snarky or fight but that why we live in america... freedom... chiices...
What about the childs life? You think its easy for them. Knowing their different and how cruel kids can be when your completely normal. Im sure people said the same thing about the advancements in technology where you can screen for birth defects and downs syndrome. Its a xouples personal choice what they decide for their life.

They will be examining the placenta at birth, not prenatally, so this shouldn't be a factor.

Like I said, I do think its interesting. However, it is possible to test a placenta prenatally (CVS) and if THAT were to happen, then problems could arise. Just my opinion....

An ASD diagnosis is completely different than a potentially life threatning medical diagnosis.
But like another person said, this isn't a prenatal screening. If a child decides to give up their less than perfect child after learning of a potential issue after birth, I say their loss. Let that child go to a family that will love and care for them unconditionally. I say this as a parent of a child on the spectrum, who I wouldn't trade for the world.

Wow. This is a bit disturbing to me. Where as a society do we draw the line on this?

Same for my nephew! He loves his teachers and that's big because there's very few people he likes!!!

this is very interesting, but as a mom who knew her child was autistic at 6 months old, i also find it alarming that so many professionals dismiss it.
my DS was diagnosed too late in my eyes, but in many it was early. meh.
as PPs have said, thank you to all the Special Ed teachers.... as a parent i know how difficult it is to raise an ASD child, and to teach a whole class at once... thank you

My nephew is autisic so i wasnt saying thats what I Personally think a parent should do. I love him more than life itself and i know my sister does. She is the most patient loving person around. What im saying is what gives a person the right to decide what should be done with the research or how a parent should handle it.
More importantly i also misunderstood and thought it was done prenatally. And i was talking severe cases if a person felt they couldnt handle that. An autistic child takes a lot of patience care and love and attention. I know a few parents that dont have that in them. I also have a friend with an autistic xhild and she pretends hes not. Shes jn complete denial. She keeps pushing him to be like her other kids. She has no patiencd for him. And he has a lot of issues. Ive seen both sides and i know what it does to a child. H ow do you think that autistic child will turn out without the right care love and guidance??? Is that fair to the child.
Again i wasnt saying it for more than just devils advocate and the fact that we have the freedom of choice in this country.
