Attic ladder install

I am looking to install an attic ladder to get into my attic. (Currently there's a 2 feet x 2 feet cut out in a closet). To install the ladder, molding, painting, and to lay down 64 sq feet of plywood on the beams I was quoted about 1600. That seems high to me? I was thinking something around 500-600 based on what I was reading on the internet? If that's a high price does anyone have any other recs for someone to do this cheaper.

Re: Attic ladder install

Who is paying for the supplies? Is the $1600 with our without the plywood, ladder, trim, etc?

I have to buy the ladder itself. The 1600 covers trim, plywood for the attic, and all the labor. Reasonable? I guess I was expecting in the 500-700 range.

That seems a little high to me. We recently did that in our house, but DH did it himself. I think it cost about $500 for all the materials. "Average" labor should be $250 per guy per day. It took my husband a few hours to do it so I can't imagine you would need a whole crew to handle the job.

If you're buying the ladder, then it's way too high. As the other posters mentioned, your idea of around $500 is closer to what it should be. Trim is really cheap. It's only about 10ft of trim total. The material they are supplying is under $100, so $1500 in labor is outrageous!

We had someone put ours in for us... everything included it was about $800... for a high quality ladder, install, supplies, molding... all we had to do it paint it. We got ply wood and screwed in in ourselves (well kinda, we never finished cause we were not so good at it!).

Re: Attic ladder install

Thanks for the input everyone. Anyone have any suggestions for people to call to do this since clearly I'm not going to pay $1600?
