Attending an open house
How do these things work? Do you have to sign in? Does an agent walk you around or can you just wander on your own?
The house next to us was foreclosed on & is apparently a total mess inside. However, it has an addition that we've considered doing in the past that we'd like to see up close & well we're just plain nosy. There's an open house today & we'd like to attend, but we're not sure if that's not cool. Any thoughts? Thanks!

i just walked in signed in and walked around and if i have questions ask them to the agent there. I never attended a open house with an agent i usually just went myself and the person i was working with would tell me to hand them her card so they knew we were working with someone.
if you really like the house bring a friend who is in construction (if you have one) this way the can spot out the obvious stuff.

Thanks! If we can just wander through that's great! I don't want to waste anyone's time since we're not actually looking to buy.
We're actually trying to convince our carpenter & his wife to move in there, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen lol

I've been to a bunch of open houses this year, and I was asked to sign in at every one. A few that were very busy I was able to wander at, but most were were accompanied by the agent.
The listing agent for house we are buying did tell me that MOST of the neighbors came to the open house though.. so it's probably more common than we realize. Maybe you could just say you're a neighbor and you specifically wanted to see changes they made, that way they know up front you are not a buyer.

going to a bank owned open house is not really like going to a regular one
the agent will most likely be sitting in their car
they will most likey not have you sign in
they will most likely not walk you around the house b/c they will most likely not know anything about it
just go...so not a big deal

Cool - thanks...we'll go check it out. We bought a house that was in the family so I have no idea how these things work. I just didn't want to mislead anyone/waste anyone's time

we went to open houses all winter even though we weren't ready to sell or buy yet. We were trying to get an idea of what's available in neighborhoods, what you get for that price range, etc.
The broker has to be there regardless of whether or not anyone showed up. We were upfront that we weren't quite ready yet and they seemed to enjoy the company.
