At what age do they give up naps?

At what age do they give up naps?
I am wondering if DD is better off getting 12 hours at night or 10 hours w/ a 2 hour nap during the day? BTW DD is 2 1/2. At what age do naps start to phase out?

Depends on the child. My DS #1 was about 2 1/2. My DD is almost 2 1/2 and she's on the verge of losing the nap altogether too. (Me: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!")
My nephew is 4 and still naps.

My son is 2-1/2 and still naps 2-3 hours a day and sleeps 10-12 hours at night. If he doesn't nap, he will fall asleep in his plate at dinner time. He still needs his nap, but I don't kill myself if we are out and he doesn't get one. I hope he naps until he's like 5!!
