dh and i eat a fair amount of seafood, both fish and shellfish. i forgot to ask the doc the other day when she would prefer we start dd on fish, but i'm curious to know when you guys gave your dc their first taste.

i'm talking salmon, cod, bluefish, etc. not shellfish.

just curious. tia! Chat Icon

Around 1 give or take a month ... when DH was grilling a lot of fish last summer, he gave Ann a taste here and there.

We stared at 8 months with some tilapia in chicken broth. We've done dr. pragers fish nuggets too but nothing else. i am going to start salmon soon as well.

DH doesn't really eat fish so she probably got her first taste at 18 months.

We just went to the 9 month check up for my youngest DD and the ped told us absolutly not until shes 15 months. But we also have airway issues with her so that plays into alot of the ped's recommendations.

DH & I don't eat fish, so DD has only had it at someone else's house. I want to say around 14 months.

That said - children born in Japan (for example) eat fish when they start solids. The same way peanuts and peanut oil are staples in countries outside the US. IMHO, there is no need to have a delay.

Nicely put

AJ had fish when she was supposed to start Chicken. She didn't like chicken but LOOOOOVES Salmon. So she's been eating Salmon since around 8mo or so.

She also had shrimp around 10m-11m because I saw no reason not to. No one has ever told me not to give her shellfish so why not? Thankfully she had no reaction and has been a shrimp lovin gal since then.

She's nearly 3 and we would LOVE for her to eat Sushi but its so darned expensive to even sample with her.

We'll wait to try shellfish, only because we are Jewish and while not completely kosher, its just feel right to wait on that for a little bit.

As for fish, salmon, tilapia, carp, flounder, and others like that at 6m when we started meats. Fish is a meat for us, we eat a lot of it too.

Maybe 7 months...my Dad always gives us amazing fresh fish that he catches so DS tried it and loved it! We have given him some here and there ever since.

DS had tilapia and flounder around 7-8 months. He loves both. We don't have it too often at home but when we do he gobbles it up.
