At what age can you start taking your baby to a swim class?
Just wondering. My ds is only 2 1/2 months. What age can you start? Also where would you recommend going and what goes on in the class? Is it expensive? Thanks!

i took my DS at 5 months. I am taking DS#2 at 3 months.
I think 3 months was the earliest for saf t swim mommy and me class.
I paid 99 for the set of classes
For the mommy and me you just get your baby familiar with the water. My DS swam underwater. (which is your choice if you want them to go under)

Up to 6 months is free at saf t swim. They charge a tax of somethig like $15. And take a refundable deposit (in case you miss a 'class' without calling to cancel).

my DS is almost 2 1/2 years and i just started him in swim and i WISH i did this earlier! We're in the cuddles and strokes class and there are a lot of little babies...but not that small. i'm sure it's fine. you should give them a call. but i would assume the baby would need to be able to hold their head up really well in order to do the class.

I've been looking into this recently. i have friends that started their kids around 6months, but I want to start DS a little sooner. Especially since it's free up to 6 months. He is almost 4 months and I'm thinking about starting soon.

I had to pay regular 6 week class prices when my daughter was 4-5 months.

We put DS in at 13 months and he ABSOLUTELY HATED IT! Which is super weird bc he is OBSESSED with water! he screamed and cried the entire class, so we dropped out.

Lessons at safe t swim are "free" from 2-6 mos but you do have to pay a $75 deposit, plus $15 insurance fee. The 75 oes towards your first lessons after 6 mos, not sure if it's refunded if you don't continue.
Its definitely not cheap, but worth it in my opinion. DDs been going since she 2 mos and able to swim on her own now. She's 2 1/2 and LOVES it. They're teaching her how to dive already.

DS went in May 2011. Unless they changed the rules....Which location?

Not sure, this was in 2009 too, deer park. Everyone has to pay the 15, its insurance. They generally don't charge it right away, it's a once a year fee.

Deer Park is at the NYSC at The Arches?
We had gone to the NYSC in Commack and honestly, in addition to it not being free (but I guess I didn't know it was supposed to be!) I didn't love it. The teachers were two teenagers and that just didn't make me feel all that comfortable.
Maybe I'll look into that location ... Ann is now 2.5 and loves the water so maybe we'll give it another try (although *I* do not look forward to squeezing myself into a bathing suit  ).
