Would you feel comfortable taking your baby on a 45 minute car ride ?

I would also say immediately. The baby will most likely sleep the entire trip. I would feed and change the baby before getting in the car.

Can't imagine not driving with her somewhere. I believe it was at LEAST that to get to the doctors office.

It takes almost that amount of time to get to my parents house at times from where I live so DD was a few weeks old.

Same here. Actually, it was easiest to take her on longer car rides when she was younger. She didn't fight us as much Chat Icon

I'd have no problem doing this from the first day they come home from the hospital. With DD, she was about a week old.

Re: At what age

My parents were 45 minutes away and we were there from when she was just a few days old. I'd say immediately.

You guys have never met my kid. Chat Icon

She has slept in the car maybe 3 times, including as an infant. As a newborn she would SCREAM her head off the entire ride.

We avoided long trips for a LONG time.

Glad I didn't have the only babies who don't just sleep everywhere like they're supposed to! They were always hit or miss, on occasion they'd sleep but never for long and usually they'd opt for just screaming unless they were being held.

That said, I would attempt a 45 minute drive at any point. I'd just expect that it might mean 45 minutes of screaming. I might not try it again for a while if it didn't go well. Chat Icon
