Asking Godparents question??
Do you ask before the baby is born or after? Im not sure what to do and how to do it yet.. I wanted to get a cute onesie but I think I might wait til baby is born so baby can wear it when we ask them? Any ideas to ask ?
ETA.. how many people are asking a married couple? rather than someone from each side? just curious..

Re: Asking Godparents question??
We asked after the baby was born. My sister and brother are the godparents of both our children. They will be the godparents for this child as well.

Re: Asking Godparents question??
For my DS, we asked my brother and SIL after he was born. We will do the same with these babies... we most likely won't have married couples this time.
I was asked to be the Godmother for my friends baby when she first found out she was expecting. To be honest, I found it a little odd. If you're going to ask before the baby is born, I would ask towards the end of your pregnancy.

Re: Asking Godparents question??
As I recall, with my 1st we asked after but with the other two we asked before. We don't have any married couples, but my 2nd DD's godparents are both from my DH's side. My DH and I are both godparents to our niece--his brother's DD.
I didn't do anything special to ask...

Asking Godparents question??
We asked the Godfather (my cousin) a couple weeks ago. It actually ended up being the day the new pope was elected so I took that as a good sign. We just went there while DH was on furlough and they thought to see the kids but we did it to ask him. We just asked. I was going to do the onsie but figured, why buy a onsie for just one time (even if it is a cute idea)?
We made DH's sister the Godmother but we made her sweat it out and asked on Palm Sunday.
We talked about doing couples but didn't want to make BIL a Godfather so we decided against it.

Re: Asking Godparents question??
We asked the same day we told the family we were pregnant....It was an obvious choice for godfather, DH's brother, but for godmother I decided to go with his wife, who was not expecting it! It was very cute how excited she was! I just feel more comfortable with it being a couple who lives nearby and is family. They will be the people who would take care of our son if anything ever happened, so it made sense!

Re: Asking Godparents question??
DS is 8 weeks and we still haven't asked. We are not doing a couple for DS and didn't for DD either. I actually prefer to have one person from each side of the family but that isn't going to work for DS unfortunately.
I don't get the point of asking a couple, unless they just so happen to each be your first choice.
