Aruba - any good deals?
Looking forward to going this year. Anyone know of any great specials going on right now? I am not looking specifically for a hotel that is kids friendly.

Dh & I stayed there for our HM in 2008, it was fabulous. However, my friend is going on her HM next month and the current reviews are terrible! She even spoke to a travel agent who said that clients have gone recently and told her that: the staff is now rude and not helpful (they were awesome while we were there) and that ppl have had stuff stolen from there beach chairs at the pool and from their rooms. She opted to stay at the Occidental instead, it's an AI as well and has very good reviews.
As for deals, we booked our HM through Travelocity and got a great deal. She did as well. My mom has also had a lot of luck with CheapCarribbean.com.
Aruba is awesome! Have fun!!

Occidental is good, and the Hyatt is even better (they have a water slide, kid's pool and I believe a kid's club but are not AI).
We've always booked thru Liberty Travel. During their Sunshine on Sale promotion you can get some good package deals with airfare included.
DH and I don't care about the AI too much - there are too many great restaurants on the island.
The Riu did not impress me at all. I didn't stay there, but walked thru the hotel and among the guests at the beach. The guests are really rude.
I had also heard about the thefts at the Riu - it wa the talk of the beach last year.
forgot to add : have fun !
DH and I have been to Aruba many times.

we just went in march and stayed at the bucuti resort which was AMAZING!!! it was located on the low rise area which is a little more quieter than the high rise which is what we were looking for.

Marriott Surf club often will give you a great deal if you sound like you are interested in purchasing a timeshare! (even if you don't in the end) all you "lose" is 90 min of your time at a meeting!
My DH and I did this! stayed and didnt buy!
My parents own a timeshare there and we all LOVE it!

ITA! My IL's have a share next door at the Ocean Club. Plus, you get a kitchen. Kept beer in the fridge and snacks and brought it down to the beach with us.

the Radisson is great and so is the Marriot Stellaris. we've been going to aruba for 3 years straight now. i can give you all sorts of recs if you'd like.

we loved the Hyatt when we went on our HM.. some friends stayed at the Riu recently and had the same complaints... staff was rude etc..

I would NEVER do an AI in Aruba. The restaurants are too fantastic on the island and the island is very safe. I would recommend the Radisson or the Hyatt. I have heard excellent things about Bucuti as well.
