I was told to wake him until he reached his birth weight. But I would let him sleep 4 hours before I woke him.

I dont know I never had that problem with Hannah. She would always wake up to eat.. little piglet. Is Tyler sleeping through them?

Re: Around how many ounces a day...

I wa stold NO WAY to wake him. If he's hungry, he will cry. Plus, if you feed him and he's not hungry, he will spit up.

I know at 2 months, they should be getting something like 35-40 ounces a day (5 ounces every 3 hours does the trick).

ETA- this is for formula fed babies, not sure about the BF rules.

Until she hit about 2 months, we would let DD go up to 4 hours b/w feedings. She would mostly wake up by herself to eat within this timeframe, but on a few occasions we had to wake her. At night - never wake them!!

Regarding the total amt of formula posted above - I don't think that is a hard set rule. DD is 5 1/2 months and takes 30 oz on average a day. At 2 months, she was only take around 24oz or so. And she's been beefing up! So I think it depends on the baby.

I dunno.... no one ever told me... I just fed her when she was hungry until she was done, let her sleep, and continued the cycle like that daily, and her doctor was always happy with her weight gains and growths.

Re: Around how many ounces a day...

I heard total ounces for the day should be 2 1/2 times their weight,

so for example,

at 7 lbs, they should be getting roughly 18 ozs total or between 2-3 ozs per feeding (8 feedings), and

at 10 lbs, 25 ozs total, or 3-4 ozs a day.

DS is 7 weeks and gets between 4-5 ozs, 7 feedings.

I NEVER wake him up to eat at night, but I typically won't let him sleep more than 4 hours during the day without a feeding.

But I agree - I feed him when he's hungry. Doc is happy with his weight.
