Are you judgemental?
I admit, there was a time in my life when I would look at people or a picture (online here) and make judgements. It could have been about their look, their clothes, their hair or whatever.
In the last year, the best lesson I have learned and I think the MOST important growth for me is stopping that.
Going where I have gone, doing what I have done and looking the way I look...I will never do a gut reaction judgement on someone.
I pass my wisdom on to you....You all know I am self conscious (sp?) about my look...I hate the loss of hair, I hate the red eye, I hate the white glue in my eye where my black pupil and brown iris SHOULD be. But I am reminded daily...I am happy just to be walking around.
Anyway. I guess I just wanted to share, don't be soo quick to judge. The freaky girl with the messed up eye and soon to have the LARGE freakish scar across her face...well she has a big heart.

Re: Are you judgemental?
i don't think i ever have been... i learned the same lesson you learned early on in my life. i have a genetic disorder called turners syndrome. basically, girls are supposed to have 2 X chomosomes, i only have 1. it doesn't affect the way i look TOO much- just that i'm short. but all of the testing, doctors visits, etc that i had to go through when i was little taught me to be sympathetic to other people and that you never know what they've been going through in their life... many babies that have turners syndrome die before they're even born- so i'm lukcy to be here, let alone have a fulfilling life.... so, because of that, like you said- i realize that just being here and healthy is more important than how my hair looks and whether i have the newest Louis bag

Younger, I was the worst. I had a chip on my shoulder about life in general. Today I surround myself with happy, loving people. I try to judge less and listen more.

Yes, but I'm working on it. Seeing and hearing people's reactions to the severe excema on my son's face was a good lesson for me.

Re: Are you judgemental?
I try never to judge a book by it's cover.
sometimes you find the author has more invested on the outside, and the read is a bore.
sometimes the author knows, it's what's inside that makes them a best seller.
and sometimes you are a swashbuckling hero with triple d's, a skinny bod just waiting for a hottt bikini, and a good person on the inside to boot.

I think I can be judgemental but it's not based on looks, clothes, etc ... more so on actions (which I realize can be isolated incidents).

I feel the same way - I didn't have a physical ailment growing up, but I had a learning disability, and was endlessly tormented by my teacher, and my peers - I was bullied A LOT and would come home crying every day. I think that taught me an important lesson on sympathy and empathy, so I rarely judge as a result, unless it's a personality issue.

Re: Are you judgemental?
i have never been judgemental about the way a person looks. Certain things may make me like tattoos and lots of piercings but that's just because i am very pain averse and cant imagine subjecting myself to that type of pain. getting my eyebrows waxed is about as far as i will go in the pain for beauty department.
I think that going to an all female high school really helped me to not care about what someone looked like on the outside. I feel like that is such an important time in a female's development and not having boys around to pick on people and single them out really made a difference. I know that girls can be way harsher than boys, but when you take boys out of the element i think it totally changes the dynamic between girls.
I do find that i can be somewhat judgemental when people make one bad decision after another and never seem to learn from their mistakes, especially when it impacts others in a bad way. And I have absolutely no tolerance for drug use (except maybe marijauna although I am not crazy about that either).

Re: Are you judgemental?
i have been and can be and I wish that i can change that about myself. Im not so much judgemental about looks and esp NOT about disabilities but more about personality. I often dont agree with others actions and find myself judging them when i should realize that everyone does their own thing that I may or may not agree with and that is ok.

dude, if I had triple d's, I'd be homeless. My husband would be humping me so often, we wouldn't leave the house to work!

Yeah I am. But I'm better than I used to be. Always working on it... same here. DH used to yell at me when we first got together and tell me to stop being mean. I never realized how bad I was until then I have definitely gotten better!

Best Quote Ever!
I'm definitely getting better. I'm judgmental when it comes to actions. You can explain away actions but, in the end, it goes to character.
When I was younger, I was more judgemental in terms of what "group/clique" people were in. What I learned is that I missed out on hanging out with some very cool, funny people by not going beyond those group boundaries.

Re: Are you judgemental?
I think it speaks leaps and bounds that there are those of us who know we are not "right" and that we are striving to be better people. It's not an easy thing to do and not everyone can do it.

I don't think I am...or I try not to be. I try not to comment on inconsequential things but if it something that I am morally averse to, I will.

Re: Are you judgemental?
Yes, but I have gotten so much better.
I try not to judge unless I have an informed opinion, so is that considered judging?
Ocassionally I will fall back to my old ways and speak before I think.
