Are there support groups for parents of children with special needs?
My daughter has a sensory processing disorder which has led to a whole host of issues. I am exhausted in ways I never knew and I would love to talk to other parents with whom I could vent, commiserate, and network. Does a support group like that exist? I know there are some for kids with autism, but it seems that may not apply to us.

Are there support groups for parents of children with special needs?
You can try your school district SEPTA. A lot of districts have parent networking meetings. Also alot of the autism support groups really cover a bunch of issues so I feel that you could also get alot of support there as well. Autism is so broad it touches on almost everything.

I would love to start something, although it would probably be more of a meet up than a support group, since I am new to this whole thing (2.5 months) and I don't have too much information to offer to others. I will have to see what the next few weeks bring, our schedule is sooooo hectic between the doctors appointments, therapies, and school screenings. I will check out SEPTA and Autism support groups too, as the OP suggested, but I would love to get together with some moms from here and share stories and experiences.
Where does everyone live? I am in East Meadow. I am thinking Farmingdale might be a nice, central location unless everyone interested lived close to each other.

I don't mind sharing the info though with what I learned through the CPSE process.

I am desperate right now too. And for the same reasons, I have 3 with special needs, but my one Daughter's SPD is what is really giving me a run for my money and I feel like I am failing her , and I am exhausted. PLEASE let me know if anyone wants to start something.

At Hagedorn Little Village where my child goes to there are support groups.
She is not in a specialized preschool yet (she was approved, but I haven't found the right place for her yet).
I definitely want to start something. I need another week or so though to solidify things and pick a good date. I am thinking either a Friday around 6:30/7pm or a Saturday around 10:30am. What do you folks think about a day and time?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I sent out an FM discussing starting a group to those of you who have expressed interest. If I left anyone out by accident, I apologize, and please feel free to FM me. Once things are solidified, I will put up a new thread on the board to discuss when and where we will meet up.
