Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
At the suggestion of my someone who used to watch children, I was told to stay away from scented candles and mugs and all that stuff and just give a GC.
How much is appropriate?
equivalent to 1 days pay? 2? 3? This is a Christmas gift, not a "bonus". By the time Christmas rolls around, she'll have been watching my son for 2.5 months. We're very happy with her - she's such a sweet woman and she genuinely cares about my baby.
She's a spiritual person, so I'll tie the GC to a really pretty ornament I found.
Just trying to plan my holiday budget now
Thanks!

Re: Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
I was gonna give $50 but not sure if thats too much. My DS is only at the sitter about 5-10 hours per week.

Re: Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
I think I am going to give her cash, between $50-$75. He is with her 10 hours per week.
I may also give her something small, from DS!

Re: Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
Last year DS was only at the babysitters from November 10th at Christmas time. I asked on here and everyone said a weeks pay. I still will give that this year.

I worked as the head teacher in a daycare for 4 years. I was always grateful with ANY gift. I just wanted to be shown I was appreciated for taking care of their children 50 hours a week.

Re: Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
Ok I'm going to sound like the cheap one here. My DD goes to a day care where she has 2 teachers. We give them $25 each. I may give more this year as my older dd is now in Kindergarten.
There were times that there were 4 - 5 teachers in a room and we had to give to each. It gets pricey.
ETA: from what I've heard from the teachers at the school...we are generous. They said most parents don't get them anything. Which SHOCKS me but that's the sad truth

I don't think you're cheap at all. It's still $100!!!
IMO, our situations are a little different. My provider takes DS into her home, where she already watches her granddaughter. She's the only one attending to him all day. I think I'll do $100 for her...

You know .. I planned on giving $50 for the main ladies (2 of them) and $25 for the others (so many in that room).
You're post really made me think.
I pay $195 a week here in Texas. She's in daycare from 7:30 to 5:45-6pm. So that's at LEAST 10hrs a day. That means its about $3.90 an hour?!! They are worth SOO much more than that!
But right now that's $100 for the main caregivers and another $50 for the others that's $150 already. If I bumped to $100 each of the main ones (one for the morning one in the afternoon) that's $200! plus another $100 for the others that's $300! and that's way more than I pay for daycare in a week to begin with.

Yeah I was told a week's pay was pretty standard but in my case the person come to my house so maybe that's different. I kind of look at the time under care as not mattering because it's paying it forward for next year. That said you should give what you can based on your situation

Re: Appropriate gift for childcare provider?
I know of three "main" women at my daycare who watch my twins....I think there may be a few more who help out for a few hours. We are so tight with cash, I just can't afford $100 each, although I would love to since they take such good care of my sons. I'm not sure what I can give....I would be embarassed to give a small amount, but I don't want to give them NOTHING, you know?
