anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

I went 3 weeks ago for my reg check up I have had not one complication. I asked about traveling to NC for 4 days road trip. And was told 'eh we don't recommend travel 3rd trimester" as per the pa she was very nasty and wouldn't give me a straight answer. I asked 5 times. My next follow jp visit isn't till after the trip. I would be going to my brothers house there is a band new beautiful hospital down the block and my sil has a fab ob if god forbid of anything. So I feel safe going... do I call the office tomorrow and ask yet again? I'm leaving Monday. If thy make me go in ill be very upset given that's another Copay when I clearly asked last visit and my next visit is the day I come back. Wwyd?! Oh ill be 30 weeks tomorrow

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

no travel at all in the third trimester seems ridiculous. i went away last weekend (granted it was a 1.5-2 hour car ride but still).
based on what you said it doesn't even seem like she was concerned about the length of the car ride or something specific about YOUR plans. just a blanket recommendation. i find that really strange.
you seem to have everything set incase of (god forbid) an emergency. I'd just go, and make sure you stop on the road a couple of times to walk around and stretch. Not ON the road, but you know what i mean lol.

I am not going to Myrtle Beach at 33 weeks but it's by choice. I know that I wouldn't be comfortable sitting that long. My bum gets numb now just sitting on the train for over an hour.

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

my doctor said no international travel in the third trimester.

we have a wedding 3 hours away when i'm 35 weeks and she wasn't thrilled about it but said we would see how i am when the time comes.

it really just comes down to what you're comfortable with...

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

Thanks it is a long drive but my dads on a water pill so between him and myself we stop every 2 hrs to pee anyway so I'm ok with it. But I wonder if I should be calling to double check with them. I had a really awful visit with this pa last time and would much rather deal with the doctors. So I wonder if it was just her being a PITA

My dr said unless there were complications then travel was ok. I have to say I went to NC in my first trimester and decided not to drive cause I knew I'd be miserable. We flew instead.

I flew there 2 times this pregnancy but i don't feel comfy flying this far in the game an alone with a 2 yr old. Is rather drive with my parents even though the hour fight is a million times better then the drive

I would just go. If you're comfortable with it and have a plan if something goes wrong while you're there, then what's the harm?

Just make sure you stop to stretch enough times!

I'm planning to go to florida around 33wks. God willing we can afford the trip. But we'd be flying. I don't see why not as long as there's no compplications or risk of premature labor.

For what its worth my doc "recommends" no travel after 32 weeks. Its just a recommendation and not a mandate.

I never even thought to ask about travel. I figured I shouldnt travel too far late in the game, like after 36 weeks. We are driving down to Baltimore for a long weekend next week and Ill be 28 weeks. I didnt think twice about it. If you feel good, I wouldnt worry and go. I planned to check out the hospitals just in case too.

They are trying to be safe and look out for you, I'm sure. I just got back from Myrtle Beach and I am 29 weeks. Yeah the drive sucked but it is what it is. I was told do not travel go within an hour away from 36 weeks on from my midwife. I wanted to go up to visit my brother at college in Cortland at 36.5 weeks with DS and she strongly recommended I didn't unless I was comfortable with the prospect of delivering there. Needless to say, I didn't go. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I went to visit my sis in maryland (obviously not as far) when i was about 29w pregnant with the twins. my doc was fine with it (and he is conservative about a lot of stuff IMO) but just wanted me to stop every 2hrs.

I guess they are just playing it safe considering i delivered my dd the day I turned 37 weeks and I had pre term labor and pre eclampsia but none of that stuff this time. I guess ill call and just double check.

my old ob said no traveling after 28 weeks, but he was nuts with the no this and that. I have since switched and the new one said no flying after 34 weeks. travel in a car is fine as long as we take breaks along the way, which isn't an issue I have to pee every 10 minsChat Icon

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

When I asked my doc if it was OK to go to TX between 33-34 wks he had no problem with it. He said worse comes to worse I could go to a hospital down there. So I went and had a blast! Granted it was about 100 degrees (but I was the same up here!) --- I just made sure to drink TONS of water.

My cousin flew in from California for my wedding at either 32 or 33 weeks. It meant the world to me that she did that, I literally cried when I saw her at my wedding!

That's just it I'm going for my nieces 3rd bday she doesn't know me or my dd are coming just knows my parents will be here its a surprise and she will flip her lid when she finds out were there! I cannot wait to see her little face light up! I know it will be a long time till I can get back down there since I usually travel alone with dd and I won't be doing it for quite some time with 2

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

I just asked my doc about traveling to Maine for my good friends wedding when I'm 35 weeks. He pretty much told me no, but I really still want to go. He gave me a whole lecture about being so close to the end and lawsuits, etc, etc...I think in the end I'm hoping to see how I feel the week or so before and make a decision regardless of my doc. Knock on wood, I haven't had any issues thus far in the pregnancy and I really don't want to miss this wedding. Hopefully my friend understands though!!

Re: anyones doc say no travel at all 3rd trimester?

I'm almost positive we go to the same doctor and they said that I can go... You go to comp right? I drove to North Carolina last week at 34 weeks and stayed for 10 days and then drove back yesterday at almost 35.5 weeks. Ketcham and Vullo said it's perfectly fine if I have no complications.. They said I can drive or fly, but flying might be better in case I were to go into labor it's just an hour plane ride. They had me make copies of my medical records and since I chose to drive, I found hospitals every 30 miles along the way. Since it was a 14 hour drive, I stopped every 2 hours to avoid blood clots. So if they are still your doctors, they will say it's fine as long as you are having a good pregnancy. FM me if you have a ?

My OB let me fly up to 32 weeks when pregnant with Chat Icon . I travelled a ton with work and flew pretty much weekly from the day I found out I was pregnant through 32 weeks. On longer flights, I'd just make sure to get up and walk the aisle a bit and drink lots of water.

I never did long road trips though. I have a friend who's OB told her he prefers 2/3 hour flights over long road trips because then you're never more than 2 hours from a good hospital. On the road you could be many hours from a decent hospital.
