Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
DD has been sick for just about a week now with the stomach bug. It started last Thursday with diahrrea and throwing up and lasted till Monday. She's lost almost a pound and a half of weight and hasn't ate a meal since last Thursday. She's had crackers bread and cheerios because that's all she could keep down. Yesterday she started not wanting to drink ANYTHING! She only drank about 10oz yesterday. Today we are up to 6oz. She's sleeping all day. I try to wake her to drink but she just won't. I brought her to PM Pediatrics last night and they said she's fine and that as long as she has 3 wet diapers a day she's fine. I'm worried about her weight loss and how sleepy she is. I called her PED this morning and she to wasn't concerned. She hasn't been her happy self since last week. Has anyone's DC been this sick for this long and wouldn't drink? I'm really worried but everyone keeps telling me she's fine but I don't feel she is. Her dr said if she won't drink to start taking a dropper and making her drink that way. Just to get liquids in her.
Please tell me she's going to be okay and that this is normal. I'm worried sick over here and don't know what to do

It is normal. It's terrible to watch as a parent, but like they said, as long as she is still producing wet diapers then she's not dehydrated, which would be yor main concern at this point. DS had a bug when I first had the baby. The throwing up and diarhea only lasted about 12hours, but he wasn't himself for about 4 days after.

Unfortunately, these bugs can last a week-10 days. DS had one earlier this year. It was painful to watch.
My Dr. basically said the same thing - as long as DS had wet diapers, there was really no concern.
He lost a lb - and he was only 3 months old and was sick for a week.
Did you try introducing Pedialyte? DS actually liked it a lot and it helped him remain hydrated.

This is day 2 of her acting very off. I'm praying the end of this is near. Its scary she's not eating or drinking much and is so out of it and sleepy. Its awful and I feel helpless

We've offered water juice formula. She takes a tiny sip and that's it. I feelsomething is not right and its more then a bug. It botheres me that her ped feels she's ok. She's like in a fog when she's up and can't keep her eyes open long enough. Its just so weird to me to see her like this. And for her not to drink or want to drink bothers me.

Re: Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
Em had this for 2 weeks. she was blowing out overnight diapers EVERY HOUR Tara....not puking as bad - but the diarrhea was something that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
At one point, i was literally cleaning a vomit stain while she blew out of an overnight, i cleaned her up and then had to clean up the diarrhea stain....while she vomited again - it was like some kind of cruel joke (all while I WAS SICK WITH IT TOO). i felt like i was on a practical joke show - seriously.
You can do pedialyte, pedialyte POPS (freezer pops), water...give her an ice cube to suck on (though em enjoyed playing with it more)...
she WILL get through this! I PROMISE!! It will age you horrendously, but she'll be okay!!!

Bree has only had 6oz today total and 10 all day yesterday that's a total of 16oz in almost two days. That can not be good?? I feel like I should bring her back to the doctor even tho she was just there yesterday and at PM PEDS last night. I don't like how's she's acting. And that nothing I do can get her to drink.

Re: Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
I hope she gets better soon!
Charlie had this in March and it was really bad. I knew something was wrong even before he started throwing up, he was very lethargic. He couldn't keep anything down, including tylenol/motrin he had a fever for hours and we eventually wound up in the er. They gave him fluids and sent us home about 7 hours later. One of the er docotrs said that we should use the infant dropper to give him liquids and keep him hydrated.

She's only had 8oz today and I just feed her 2oz from a dropper because she will not eat from her bottle. She has no fever and knock on wood hasn't thrown up today.

The first day he was sick he had his morning bottle (about 7oz) and he threw up the entire bottle within 10 minutes. The next feeding he refused the bottle and after about an hour of trying to offer it be took maybe 2 oz. By 7pm that night he hadn't kept anything down and refused everything we offered. He also threw up all the tylenol we gave him. By the next day he seemed better but he would still occasionally throw up the entire bottle. It was about 2 weeks before he was better again. He wasn't sick everyday but he had bouts of it that would come and go.

I'm going to try giving her formula before bed in the dropper and hope we can get one more wet diaper. She hasn't pooped today either. I feel like I should bring her back to the dr tomorrow.

Have you tried the pedilyte? DS wouldn't take it alone but he would drink a little mixed with formula. It was a full 2 weeks until he was back to himself but he wasn't sick everyday. It was really weird he would be fine all day and then have the last bottle of the night and throw it all up. I went to the ped's at least 3x thinking there was something really wrong. My ped assured me that sometimes the little one's take a longer to get over a virus like that.

Re: Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
If she is that lethargic, I wouldn't wait for another wet diaper before calling your ped answering service and asking the dr. on call whether he/she thinks DD should go back to PM Pediatrics. It could be that it's just taking a little while to get out of her system but if she is dehydrated she will need fluids sooner rather than later.
Hope she feels better soon!

Re: Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
She had her 3rd wet diaper just now and just threw up we gave her pedialyte and some formula mixed and she threw it all up. Its weird she's fine half the day, happy and playing then she becomes so tired and sleeps for hours. She gos up and down. She just drank an oz of formula. I'm going to be calling her ped in the morning. I've been there 3 times since friday and PM peds already I just don't want her to get to dehydrated. Her dr must think I'm crazy! 2 weeks of this is going to s*ck! Well I have one week down, one to go! And she's lost so much weight already=-(

Re: Anyone's DC had the stomach bug really bad?
It's frustrating when you, as the mommy, know something else is wrong and the ped says it's ok.
DH brought DS to the pediatric ER at our local hospital because we wanted answers. They told DH he had gas and he'd eat when he wanted to eat (all while DS was SCREAMING)
My cousin is a ped and he gave me the let it run it's course answer too and I was so frustrated.

You aren't crazy - I was on a first name basis with everyone in my ped practice by the time this was over!!!
Ped did say, if it didn't get better at the week mark, she was going to do an ultrasound and start an IV.
