Anyone's DC allergic to eggs?

If so, what foods do they eat?

I feel like all i can feed him is fruit, vegtables and meat.

not allergic but refuses to eat them in any form shape or variety what so ever. I tried it all.

We do for b-fest...lots of fruits, pancakes( I guess they have eggs?..I buy frozen kind) , mini bagels, oatmeal.

I gave him pasta and I believe b/c it's manufactured in a plant that uses eggs (according to the label) he had a reaction to it. It wasn't as bad when I gave him the eggs but he still had some spots that went away by the morning.

We are big pasta eaters..I think this is why I started to panic a little about what to feed him.. Rice sounds good though.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone's DC allergic to eggs?

we buy DeCecco pasta which is safe for dd - I think Ronzoni has that cross contamination warning as well.

As a sub in other foods, it varies - "egg replacer" is good for cakes, etc but in something like pancakes, applesauce and veg oil work best. Unfortunately it's a lot of trial and error to find out which works with what.

I found 2 books to be helpful - "What's to Eat" by Linda Coss and "Bakin' Without Eggs" by Rosemary Emro I believe.

Do you mean the whole egg, or just the white. The white is the most allergic part.

I believe it's the whole egg. The dr. took a blood test yesterday...honestly I don't know what that is going ot tell us.
He really test him otherwise...probably b/c he is only 11 months old.

All I know that I feed him a scrambled egg and within 20 minutes he had hives all over him and he was vomitting.

Ugh - I didn't even think of all the other things you can't feed him now.

When do you find out the results from today's test?

Re: Anyone's DC allergic to eggs?

I am allergic to egg yolk and have mastered the art of eating with this life threatening allergy. For pasta, try the store brands or even better, go for the organic brands found at Trader Joes, Whole Foods or Wild By Nature. There you can find regular ol' semolina pasta (white or wheat) that is not processed in a facility that also processes eggs. I love my pasta!!!! It's a really tough allergy. I developed it when I was 21, so I got my fill of birthday cakes and holiday dessert tables. But there are plenty of things you can do to substitute. Feel free to FM me for details or recipes. Like I said....the art of eating...it's not gone forever!!!!Chat Icon

Re: Anyone's DC allergic to eggs?

I was thinking about you earlier...

I don't know if you know or not, but PLEASE don't get flu shot if your dr forgets about allergy.

Also thinking...josh has a gluten allergy, trader joes printed out a huge list of gluten free items they carry....maybe they do the same for egg allergy?

The MMR shot also has egg in it. Ryan got the shot at the allergist in case he had a reaction.

DS has an egg white allergy and we also feed him a lot of meats, veggies and fruits. I did find some organic waffles that are egg and dairy free at stop ad shop and he can have breads like whole wheat, etc. We also give him cereals, oatmeal, crackers, its def hard to find stuff and i feel bad he cant have most cakes and sweets and stuff.
Also, def dont do the flu shot..i heard not to give it to a kid with egg allergies but my pediatrician last visit tried to tell me, oh no, its fineChat Icon well i called our allergist and he said do NOT give him the flu shot. Thank god i double checked with him...he did say we could give the MMR, but i am holding off anyway

Especially if your kid has such a strong reaction to eggs....Josh's came up positive on allergy test, but I have never really seen a reaction

good to know about MMR

Thank you so much for posting this because I had no idea about the MMR shot, but I did know about the flu.

DD is allergic to eggs but she seems to be ok with products that have egg in it. I still check the labels though and I agree with another poster that the store brand products make it a little easier to tell what has egg and what doesn't.

I will tell you that the first 2-3 weeks of finding out they have allergy is hard because you feel like you can't give them anything but it get's easier and will be second nature soon Chat Icon

Re: Anyone's DC allergic to eggs?

the MMR should be okay actually - we took the precaution with my dd by taking the vax and bringing it to my allergist's office to be skin tested first, and then slowly given to dd and we had to wait in the office for a while afterwards to make sure there was no reaction, but thankfully she was fine.

In fact, she received her MMR booster last month and was fine with that too. It's just the flu shot she cannot get.

Thanks for posting this. I had no idea the MMR shot had it. I will talk to my Dr.
