Anyone work in HR?
A co-worker is thinking of taking a personal leave of absence from work. Is a doctor note required or is that just for FMLA? She is going to go to HR, but doesn't want to be blindsided going into the meeting. TIA

It really depends on the PLOA policy for the employer. Personal leaves aren't required so it's up to the employer. Our company does not require documentation for personal leaves, we base it on whether or not you're in good standing and needs of business. Anything medical or military requires documentation (accommodations and leaves)
(not in HR but am a people manager for a large company that offers multiple leave types and I deal with them regularly.. as I type this out actually LOL)

It really depends on what the leave is for and the company policy on personal leaves.
If the leave is for a medical reason that is the only time a company would need a doctors note/FMLA.
If the leave is for non medical reasons they would have to find out the companies policy on such leave requests.

Re: Anyone work in HR?
If it's for "personal" reasons I can't see how they can require a doctor's note. What if the "personal" reason isn't medical?
If it's a medical leave then yes
