Anyone watching Dateline right now, I can't believe this!
This guy got his girlfriend pregnant and he told her that he wanted to keep the baby. She went behind his back, contacted an adoption agency and chose to give her baby up in Utah because she knew that he would have a lack of rights in that state. Now, he can't get his baby back. He never even signed saying he was giving the baby up, in fact, she wrote on the paperwork that he wanted to keep it and they still went through with the adoption. He is fighting tooth and nail to get this kid back and is getting no where.
WT F!! It's RARE that you hear of a young guy who knocked up his girlfriend say HEY I want to step up to the plate and support this baby. It's his own flesh and blood. Fine, she didn't want it, why can't he raise it? I feel so bad for him. I couldn't imagine being that kid 20 yrs down the line and finding out that one of my parents really wanted me and yet through some crazy loophole was able to be given away.

That's terrible. I didn't watch it on Dateline but I can't help but wonder why the adoptive parents wouldn't give the child back to its birth father, I could never do that to someone. How are they going to explain themselves one day?

I saw this on the Today Show the other day. It was so sad. I had no idea that the mother could just give away her child when the father wanted to keep it. I would think he would need to sign off on it.

I read about this, and found out he's BACK with his ex gf (the mother), and she wants her baby back as well!!!!!
then why did you give it away in the first place

If that's true and he's that stupid, then I guess Utah made the right decision letting the baby stay with the adoptive parents.

The decision is always in the best interest of the child. I would hope this is the case.

They were saying how the Utah laws are a bit out of date as they only give the father 20 days to challenge an adoption. This father didn't even know his child was in Utah until after the 20 days because the girlfriend and her family stalled and kept lying to him about where their child was.
Now the little girl is about to turn 3 years old and she's only ever known her adoptive parents. The whole thing is crazy because while I feel for the father of the child, removing her from her family in Utah to be brought back to Virginia to people she's never known, will likely cause serious stress and trauma to the child. At the same time, he's been fighting to get his daughter from day 1 and all the court proceedings and laws have been stalling the process.
I still can't believe that he is back with the mother of the child. I really don't think I would be able to forgive her if I was him.

I didn't feel bad for him at all, the fact that he wanted to still take the child, who is now two and a half out of the family where she is clearly a part of is just cruel. I think that the logical thing to do is to give him some visitation and she can spend some time with him and his family. He didn't elicit any empathy from me, sorry. Its a sad case, and imo the best thing for this child would be to stay with her family and not be taken out of the home where she is comfortable. The whole thing is sad.
