Re: Anyone use an architect?

I used one abt 4 yrs ago to add a bedroom & full bath & closet on a slab. I believe it was $1500 (permits were separate) for the prints.

Hard to answer. It depends on what you want to do. There can be a lump sum fee, a basic fee plus a % of the construction sum, strictly a % of the costruction sum or other. Too many variables to give an answer.

As stated previously, it depends on what you're having done.

It also depends on what level of service you want, and the quality of the architect.

We did a 2nd floor additon, with reconfiguring the first floor. We had him draw plans from our diagrams, everything was laid out for him including outside elevations. There was some work he had to do, but there wasn't a lot of back and forth and we were 80%-90% there before we contacted him.

He drew plans, filed the permit and thats it. we paid $2500 plus permit fees of $1300. We had no monitoring of the project, site inspections after the construction started etc.

I know people who are paying close to $10K for their architect, for essentially the same additon. They went the more full service route.
