Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

If so, which one?

I take Align daily for my stomach issues- but that doesn't really seem to help with yeast infections.

I also eat yogurt almost every day- but again, no difference.

I see they sell ones in the feminine care aisle- I am wondering if those are any better?

Anyone have any success?

You can take acidophilus supplements. You can find it by the vitamins in any supermarket or Pharmacy. It's very helpful in reducing the reoccurrence of YI.

I have to go get some now bc I'm on a heavy duty course of antibiotics and that's sure fire way to get one.

If you continue to get them frequently, I'd see your GYN, you may need a round of diflucan and then you can stick to Acidophilus to keep them at bay.

Also the usual every day lifestyle
changes of:
-No Tight Fitting Pants
-Thongs can cause bacteria to go
from one spot to another
(u know what i mean)
-No underwear to bed at night
-Don't stay in wet bathing suit too long
-Shower right after working out
(Excessive sweating)
-Change the detergent you use on your
underwear to a clear & free unscented
-No colored toilet paper

I think that's it lol

Thank you!
I did use acidophilus in the past - years ago- and I think it did help. I need to get it again and start taking it.

I try to follow all those tips as well- my gyn also recommended I only use unscented Dove to wash with.
I also try to only use 100% cotton undies- not just cotton crotch
But I do wear thongs most of the time and I am sure my pants could be looser Chat Icon

I've been on Diflucan and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt
This is like a life long issue with me and nobody can seem to figure it out.
I had all kinds of tests, etc...and nothing.

Thanks for the advice! I am definitely going to get back on the acidophilus

I'm taking Trader Joe's brand acidophilus. I am soooo prone to YI. No doctor can find any particular problem, just my body's environment is very conducive to yeast growth. I find taking the acidophilus religiously makes a huge difference.

I have been told that eating things with a lot of sugar and carbs can make you more prone to them as yeast thrives on sugar.

Yes, sorry, I meant a diet high in SUGAR.
I read a few articles that say to cut out bread, pasta, even fruits! Not likely....

Maybe I will try the acidophilus.

Yes, I actaully did have it checked for that very reason.
Came back fine.
Nobody can seem to figure it out.
The Dr thinks my body is just prone to yeast for whatever reason.
It stinks!

Maybe you should also try dietary changes.

Look up Chronic Yeast Infections and dietary habit. You may find someone who had the same issue and stopped eating a certain thing and since then has been fine.

That's how I figured out I was lactose intolerant way before my dr. did. Even something baked with butter in it would KILL me.

Re: Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

When I had chronic yeast infections in college, I tried everything - acidophilous, garlic, yogurt, cranberry juice, plus all the suggestions that were mentioned above. The only thing that finally helped was cutting all white sugar from my diet (except for fruit). Literally, I would ask at Chinese and Italian restaurants about the sauces and not get them if they had any sugar. It was not a fun time, but the infections went completely away.

Re: Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

I have been having the same problem. It is awful. My gyn said it is due to the pH of the va-jay-jay. Apparently it is supposed to be on the acidic side, and if the pH gets too high (too basic), it creates the right environment for yeast to grow. For me it had nothing to do with sugar or carbs, as I eat very little of them and take in very little sugar. He had me start taking cranberry capsules 2 per day. And I also take RepHresh capsules 1 per day and Azo Yeast tablets (both can be found in the feminine aisle). I also switched to the tampons made by the RepHresh company (don't remember the exact name right now and I'm at work). They also make a RepHresh gel that you can use I think once a week if you need it.

So funny that you posted this- I was thinking of buying the rePhresh gel just this morning.
I have been reading about pH balance down there and it seems to be related like you said.
I think I"ll give it a try.
And the tampons too- because I do notice an increase in Yeast infections right after my period and I use tampons all the time!

Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

My OB told me today to take Provella. It's a probiotic sold behind the counter at CBS. You don't need a script. I'm going to pick it up over the weekend. I got constant YI's in my third trimester of this last pregnancy. I feel like I'm starting to get another one. He gave me a script for a cream and told me to take Provella for a few months.

Re: Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

After much research, I found a product called Fem-dophilus. You can buy it at the vitamin shoppe this product must stay refrigerated. Check the reviews on amazon.com, it gave me hope and it works!!!!!

It's a miracle!

Re: Anyone take a daily probiotic to prevent yeast infections?

I take acidophilus that is "live" and is shipped overnight in dry ice and refrigerated at the vitamin store. I was told by the nutritionist there if it's shipped and stored that way the acidophilus is still live. Labels can say "live" bc they were "live" when they manufactured the product. Once they hit the store shelves they are not live any more.

I would recommend going to a vitamin store and finding an acidophilus that specifically for fungal infections.

Yes I have thought of that. I thought they had to be refrigerated.
But most are not.
I am thinking the live ones work better.
The other ones seem to be a waste for me.
