Anyone running the Diva's Half this year or ran last?

Kind of a spin-off from the LI Half talk... I really want to do a half this upcoming year but I dont know if the LI Half is right for me, the course looks challenging. I was looking a bit at the Diva's Half and the info says the course is flat which is what I am looking for. Did anyone run it last year? Thoughts/advice? Any other recommendations on good courses are appreciated as well. I just started running last summer and the most I have ran is an 8k. Do you think I will be able to do it if I keep training hard or should I wait till 2012?

The Diva Half was my first half. It is SO much fun! The course is relatively flat (from what I remember). There was music at different mile markers and alot of support- local cheerleaders were there cheering everyone on. A few women dressed up. It was really a great experience.

I also had run the LI 10k but I think thats a completely different course from the half. I can always ask my dad about the L.I one- he ran the full so he can probably give me feedback.

The LI half is pretty pancake flat. I didn't run the Diva, but it's the same area, so they are probably pretty similar.

Perfect timing for doing both!

Both are flat and similar courses.

This one sounds like a lot of fun and I'm hoping to do it this year. You have plenty of time to train for it too. If you think you have time to train for LI, then I say do both! LI was my first half last year and it wasn't that bad. There's one sort of steep hill up the Wantagh pkwy, but again, not that bad. Good luck!Chat Icon

I did both the LI Half and the Diva. I liked the LI Half better b/c you go on the parkway for about one mile so that was kind of nice b/c it wasn't just on the side roads. I could never stay on that parkway for more than 2 miles though (sorry to the full marathoners)! I will probably do the LI half again b/c I live only 10 mins away and it's a flat course. Diva was fun but I think once was enough for me. I would def recommend it though it was lots of fun!

I had been planning to run the LI Half until I realized that I am working that day. I'm now planning on running the Diva Half and I'm really excited about it because it seems like such a fun run!

Did they announce the date of the diva half?

I havent run either half, but I have run a few in nyc and I love them! I am probably the odd-ball here, but even though the hilly courses are tougher i think it helps make the race go by "faster" b/c I am not running on a flat course for 13.1 ones.

I can't run LI half b/c I have a bridal shower that day, but I plan on running Divas.

And to the OP - you can definitely run the half this year! No need to wait until 2012. I could barely run 2 miles when i decided to start training for my first half. i have a great 12 week training program.

I did the LI half last year, and it was pretty flat - not many hills at all.

Has anyone done the More / Fitness Women's Half in the city? I've done the LI half marathon twice and was thinking of trying something different this year.

I've run the MORE. It is a fun atmosphere. Course is "ok"....2 loops of Central Park, which is tough, especially when you have to conquer those Harlem Hills twice! I enjoyed it though and would recommend it.

Oooh, yeah, I think you lost me at "hills" haha.

Maybe I'll do the LI again this year Chat Icon

They're not that bad...sorry, didn't mean to scare you off from it Chat Icon Basically, Central Park has a lot of "rolling hills" Just by the second loop, it can be a little tougher in the northern section of the park. You'd be fine, especially since it's not your first half.
