Re: Anyone NOT taking Lamaze or birth classes

I do not have plans to take Lamaze.

We are however signed up for free classes at our hospital, Labor & Delivery and C-Section. More so that I'd like DH to be prepared as I think he has little to no idea what to actually expect and I'd like him to be somewhat useful of a supporter in there!

I'll also be attending a Breastfeeding class (without DH) offered at the hospital for free as well.

My friend said the same thing. She just had a baby six months ago.

why don't you get the laugh & learn video - then you can watch it in your own time but you don't have to spend the time in a class.

I went to a class that was more of a tour of the hospital. I didn't have an real birthing class. It was fine for me.

I didn't and never planned to. I agree, ignorance is bliss for me! I'm very much a go-with-the-flow kind of person, I feel like you can take 100 classes and never truly be prepared. Once labor starts I'm sure most of it would be thrown out the window for me. Chat Icon

Re: Anyone NOT taking Lamaze or birth classes

I took them with DS and I will say even though I had a c/s the breathing techniques that they teach really helped. I ended up on bed rest during my pg and missed the CS class. When my obyn heard that he made me go to a different class - a few days before DS was born. Well the nurse did not go over the breathing and the hospital was furious and gave everyone a free class plus a special class on just the breathing techniques. Honestly a lot of the stuff is really basic, but to me the breathing is invaluable. It teaches you how not to hyperventalate and to control your body.

i took a birthing class before DS and i'm sorry i did.

turns out i used none of it because my labor went too fast - but that's besides the point.

i could have gotten the breathing/positioning stuff from a video just as easily (and more cheaply!).

secondly, i didn't need the labor/birth process spelled out for me. it just freaked me out more.

i say that if you're an ignorance-is-bliss, go-with-the-flow type, skip it.

Re: Anyone NOT taking Lamaze or birth classes

I took lamaze with my D and it was a waste of time and money. I ended up having false labor one of the nights of the class, and then real labor the other, so technically I never finished the class. My OB asked me the other day if I wanted to take any classes, I told him no. I think if you are trying to deliver completely naturally with no drugs it would be helpful, but for me, I like to get the epidural ASAP.

Not taking Lamaze but have been reading two Bradley method books just for the heck of it.

We will be going to the L&D class that is offered by the hospital.

Re: Anyone NOT taking Lamaze or birth classes

We were going to but just decided yesterday not to. I borrowed two dvd's from my sister: one for child birth and the other for breastfeeding.

I still may want to take a hospital tour though, since I dont know anyone personally who's delivered at Huntington and I have no idea where the maternity ward is!

I don't know if I am going to do it. Reading the books gave me major anxiety so I stopped I feel like a class might put me over the edge. I am renting the video that someone on here suggested and if anything will take a breastfeeding course.
