Anyone not having a shower?
I'm not having one because my mom doesn't like them ever since my grandma planned one and afterwards her friend lost the baby and everything had to be returned.
So, now no shower for me. I'm not upset about it -- I don't feel strongly about it either way. But, I was just wondering how many others have similar experiences?

Re: Anyone not having a shower?
No shower. Im Jewish and superstitious. I wear a small red ribbon that guards me from the "evil eye" pinned discreetly to my bra. It gives me peace. A similar red ribbon will be tied to the crib once it is set up.
My family will not make me a shower. Not a thing will come into my house until the baby is born with the exception of a paint job and the coming home outfit that will go in my hospital bag. My mother lost a child after he was born. She just recently explained to me, close to 39 years later, how she felt when she had to return everything. She never forgot.
Anything that NEEDS to be purchased and in the house, will be stored in my mother's basement and brough over before I get home from the hospital.

We have the same traditions in my family. We are Jewish too.

Re: Anyone not having a shower?
i am not superstitious at all, but my mom is - she is also jewish. she will not be throwing me a shower but told me that if anyone else does she will be happy to attend. if my MIL or a friend doesn't throw me a shower then i won't be having one - and that's okay with me. i just had a bridal shower last year in july, and i would kind of feel guilty having another shower so soon.
but, then again, i won't turn down an offer to have one

I'm not superstitious either. And, it's not a religious thing since we're not Jewish - it's just that one experience that freaks out my mom.
My friends asked if they could throw me a shower, and I didn't really know what to say. In the end, since it didn't matter to me, I figured I'd just go along with not having one. I'm sure I'll get presents beforehand (even from my mom). It's just the actual shower for some reason. Oh well!
Thanks for your responses!

I'm not pregnant yet, but I when the time comes, I will not be having a shower for the same reasons Leslie gave above.
