Anyone loosing hair during prgnancy?...i'm freaking
ok so for the past few weeks i have noticed that i'm dropping a crazy amount of hair...my DH said don't worry sweetie just call the dr. so i finally did.. he is the most non-chalant (spelling ) dr. he doesn't worry about much and if he does he never expresses it to me.
he tells me hum.. that is not common usually you keep all your hair. maybe you should contact the dermitologist. i have an appt for monday!
so now i'm freaking and crying all morning. i had a slight case of alopecia many years ago so i'm so worried i'll loose it all and that it will affect the baby!
please let me knoe if anyone has gone though this

I was most definitely, but I also had some other symptoms-extreme exhaustion, itchiness. My chiro/friend recommended a thyroid panel and I have hypothyroidism. I am now on medication to treat it.
Remember, just because this was me doesn't mean it will be you. But if you have other symptoms, it is a very easy test. I am with you!
Also, I switched to baby shampoo (my dad said my brother's dermatologist recommended it) and I figured it is not like I won't use it later if it doesn't work on me. Surprisingly, it does!!!

I have been losing a frightening amount of hair and don't think I lost a single strand while PG with DS. Its been going on since about 12 wks. I'm now 16 wks. I came off prednisone around that time so I have attributed it to that, but was told yesterday by a RN that it is sometimes a side effect of pregnancy. I plan to ask my OB on Monday when I see him.

does that affect the baby? i am real tired too but i've been chasing around a 13 month old..do you think a dermotologist can make an accurate diagnosis for the thyroid thing?

Me too! I always lost a decent amount of hair though. I have really thick wavy hair so it never really was a concern. I would find a hairball every single time I showered in the drain. My hair elastic is always full of hair. After I blow dry which I don't do often the bathroom floor is covered with hair. Lately I have noticed more than usual but I just figured it was hormones from the pregnancy. Don't freak out I am sure everything will be fine.

I lost hair only post partum (which was significant). DH had localized alopecia when he was going through some major stress & never had it again.They will be able to rule out other issues though. My cousin had thyroid issues after her 2nd child (her child is fine).
I was under the impresssion that hair goes in a resting stage while pregnant.
You're doing the right thing with the dermatologist but I'm not sure they'd diagnose a thyroid issue. If you don't get answers, go to your primary care physician or an endocrinologist.
You're being proactive about it so I think they'll find the cause & the solution.

I will definately let you know what my Dr says please let me know too. I feel like If it keeps up at this rate for my whole pregnancy I will most certainly be bald.

ive always lost my hair and thought it would stop during pregnancy bc everyone says how great its supposed to be for your hair...never happened to me. My hair falls out everyone....i find it in my hairbrush, shower, even in my vacuum and swiffer

Nah, I'm not really stressed about it... I tend to always lose a bunch of hair. My OB is actually running a thyroid test on me at my next appt due to losing a ton of weight... so we'll see.

You can mention it and they will probably recommend that you ask for a blood test from your OB. But you are also chasing a 13 month old-I was not!
It only effects the baby if you go your whole pregnancy untreated and that is not a definite. The worst that can happen as my endo said was your baby might be a few points lower than some other kids on an IQ test. And that is worst case. So, I wouldn't worry.

I have always lost a good amt of hair in general, but I have a lot so no biggie. But this is abnormal. I mean an excessive amt. Cleaning the show drain twice with a clump both times and hair all over me all day. I am on thryroid meds for underactive thyroid.

my doc said that about thae resting stage and that is why he thought it was unsual. thanks for suggesting the endocrinologist i would not have thought of that. i will have to look that up if the derm blows me off!

i know i'm going though that, the drain..etc... its actually gross! i find my 13 month old playing with pieces of hair he finds.

not that i would wish this on anyone else but its nice to know that other ppl are going though a similar thing. makes me feel a bit better! thanks for the positive thoughts!!

i just wanted to let everyone know i really apperciate your posts!!!! i have been soo upset about all this. its enough that when you are pregnant you worry that you don't eat somrthing wrong or drink something wrong cause you could permanenty scar your child. then i'm having this happen and i'm imagining such horrible things. i also haven't gone for my level II yet so i haven't seen for sure that the baby looks healthy.
I can't thank you all enough i'm much calmer now.
