anyone know how many iui's/ivf's someone should do?
what i mean is not what insurance will cover or not.... but the amount of cycles a woman should do or be allowed to do safely? i had two ivf cycles....and three iui's ....going on number 4....
all with different/lots of meds.
do docs cut us off at a certain point for health reasons or just keep going till our ovaries fall out? thoughts?

Re: anyone know how many iui's/ivf's someone should do?
I am like the energizer bunny....I keep going and going and going....Three rounds of IUIs with clomid (thins out lining so there is a medical reason not to do long term), took 5 IVF cycles (three actual transfers) to conceive DS and currently we are TTC #2 (with one failed IVF cycle behind us). I am sure on a certain level all these meds cant be good but I try not to think too much about it and just focus on the prize.

i was told you can do unlimited iui's (depends on the meds you're taking though)
i don't know about ivf
since our insurance doesn't cover IVF, we're going to keep going with iui's until we both drop from exhaustion! We've done 6 iui's so far..

i dont think theres a max. its a personal decision. a doctor may think you have exhausted all options, but i dont think there is a limit to how much meds you can do. ive heard of people doing 15+ IVFs . i just did ONE and im exhausted

There's no limit set by anyone, insurance will but you can go as long as you want (...until your ovaries fall out...lol).
I've done 6 IUI's, 4 OE IVF's and 1 DE IVF. After the 4th IVF, we decided to move on. DH was actually done after the 3rd, but I wasn't ready to move to DE yet. When #4 failed I was like....OK, I get it. But, truthfully, after that I found out I had two things preventing me from getting pregnant. And contemplated doing #5. But, there's no way I would have convinced DH, as we are OOP for all of this. I know people who did 7 and #7 was the winner. You have to follow your heart and what your wallet can handle. Of course I would always recommend if its not working after 2 cycles (IVF not IUI), to think of moving on to a better clinic. Or having a serious discussion with your RE about changing up the protocol etc...

I have done 5 IVFs and am getting ready for #6...yes, I did 5...and don't feel I did any....
Celine Dion conceived her twins on cycle #6 (it was her eight IVF - she had 2 before she conceived her son)...
There is no limit how many you can do unless its your age or financial situation....
