Anyone here on Lipitor?

I think i'm offiicially the youngest person ever on lipitor! my dr just called me and my cholesterol is high

DH has been for a couple of years. How high? Is it really necessary to put you on Lipitor? Can you change your eating habits and add exercise to you routine?

I've been working on trying to get DH off it (it's not a drug I think is good for him to be on long term) but he has a family hx and it is near impossible to get him to exercise and quit smoking.

I worked with a woman who had high cholesterol and she added flax seed to her food to help keep it down. The doctor wanted to put her on lipitor or something like it and she refused, but the flax seed worked. Maybe you should look into it?

And don't feel bad about the high cholesterol.. when my best friend was only 18 years old the doctor told her she had high cholesterol too!

what boggles my mind was that a year ago at my last physical my cholesterol was fine. i think ever since i got married and started eating whatever DH eats it shot up!

i do have a family history of high cholesterol and i think thats why my doctor is so adamant about the lipitor. she said no more red meat, no more cheese, no more ice cream....my 3 favorite food groups!

you can't talk to her about changing your diet and excersize routine before going on it? especially if it was normal last year and you know you have changed your eating habits.

My cholesterol has gone up lately and my doctor told me to lose weight, avoid red meat, dairy and eggs and to excersise. He said even 15 pounds will make a difference.

I also just started taking a niacin supplement. I read that it's supposed to help get your numbers moving in the right direction.

I didn't want to get into taking lipitor since it's a hard med to get taken off of.

I have high cholesterol also. But, my dr isn't going to put me on medication until after I am finished having children.

In the meantime I am trying to regulate it with diet and exercise.

Funny you should mention this - I've been dealing with the same thing.

I've been having my cholesterol monitored for several months. My total cholesterol has bounced back and fourth. 222 to 202 then to 230. My HDL (good) has PLUMMETED. My doctor recommended Niacin and that didn't really work so now he has prescribed Vytorin. I am 26 and do not want to go on medication so I'm trying once more with exercise and diet to see if I can whip my numbers into shape.

my dad has been taking it for years...I'm sure one day i'll have to take something b/c high cholesterol runs in the family

please only take these types of meds if you HAVE TO! both my parents are on Lipitor and have been trying others as well. the side effects are no worth it! my mom got a blood clot in her leg and my dad gets random back pain they both have decreased their dosages.
