Anyone have teeth issues after having a child?
I don't know if it's a coincidence or what but my teeth have gone to crap in the last few years. I went to the dentist right before I got pregnant & 2 years later I needed 2 root canals & a wisdom tooth pulled. I finally finished getting it all done & I guess my teeth shifted because my bite is different & I'm constantly biting my cheek Just wondering if having a kid had anything to it or it was bound to happen (not that it matters, it's still no fun)

Yep!!!! My kid WRECKED me... I first had to have all my wisdom teeth extracted... Then had a root canal... The icing on the cake was how the pregnancy gave me gall stones and I had to have my gall bladder removed. I swear... As if what we go through isn't enough... Men have all the fun, we get all the pain... Doesn't make sense! Grr

Re: Anyone have teeth issues after having a child?
During my 2nd trimester, I needed a root canal. It failed a week later and I needed another one. That one failed and I ended up having it pulled. Fun times. Before that, it was about ten years since I had any problems with my teeth.

Yes! I had great teeth and I swear in the last 3 years I have fallen apart. The dentist said its very common. Pregnancy definitely impacts your gums and your mouth in general. I never had a root canal in my life and now I had 2 last year!!!

Yup, I have a ton of cavities and one of my molars even cracked! I really need to go to the dentist and have it all fixed but I'm embarrassed that when they compare my teeth to the last time I was there, they have gone down hill so fast they will think I don't brush my teeth or something lol. I know that's stupid but its my irrational fear lol

Re: Anyone have teeth issues after having a child?
oh my word this is so weird you are all saying this.
my son's paternal grandfather is from Italy, moved here when he was 20. when i became pregnant the first thing he said to me was, if you don't start eating vegetables and nothing but vegetables, you'll lose all of your teeth.
i was like whaaa???? and i mean, what can you say? he's from another country and he comes out with these "rules of thumb" and words of wisdom / warnings all of the time.
during my pregnancy i had like zero appetite - what i did eat was very healthy: escarole and beans, grilled eggplant, fresh fruit smoothies, avocado, etc. that's really all i wanted - nine months of the same handful of foods. anyway, i always took my vitamins and made sure i was religious about taking them.
after i gave birth i did not have a problem. i have never had a cavity in my thirty years on this earth so after i gave birth i was worried but i have had two check ups since DS was born (9/9/13) and both were great.
i did have sensitive gums during pregnancy, they bled a bit, but other than that i was ok.
that's so weird though - this must be why he was so adamant about that!!!
he would look at me a lot during the pregnancy, shake his head, and say, you're going to lose all of your teeth because i wasn't drowning myself in meats, cheese, veggies, and fruit and eating like me WEIGHT in food.

Anyone have teeth issues after having a child?
I did -- but honestly im not sure what caused it, pregnancy in general, lack of nutrition (bc i couldnt even stomach the sight of food), or the fact that i was vomiting so much that no matter how much i brushed my teeth im sure it wore away at my enamel, etc. I had a tooth just crack right down the side (in the back of my mouth) and i have a feeling it had to do with vomit! Pregnancy is a ******! Another reason why i still havent tried for #2 yet.

Re: Anyone have teeth issues after having a child?
My actual teeth are fine but after I had my DD I got this weird bone growth in my gum on the lower right side. I forget the actual name but now I have a permanent hard, bump on the front of my gums. You can't really notice it just looking at me, but it bothers me. Sometimes it gets irritated and is uncomfortable. I can't do anything about it since it's bone and would be major oral surgery to get rid of it.
