Anyone have pre-eclampsia early on?
my friend/one of my graphic artists at work who is 21 weeks came over to me at work to show me her feet and they were unbelievably swollen, and she had been having headaches, so me and another girl said its really early on to be THAT swollen and with the headaches - that she should maybe call her OB.
She did, and based on swelling, weight gain, initial office urine test and blood pressure, they think she has pre-e. She has to collect her urine for the next 24 hours.
Ive never heard of it this early on, but I dont know much about it. Is that OK (not that its ever OK, but I just feel like its REALLY early) What risks does she have? Is there anything I can do to help her at work....Ill lighten her workload as much as I can.
Im just worried about her. She has a history of seizures as it is, but its been a decade or so since one, but that concerns her OB too.

Re: Anyone have pre-eclampsia early on?
if her 24 hour urine comes back with protein she'll prob be put on bedrest. her BP will have to be monitored very closely. if she is already at risk for seizures prior to pre-e, she will be at an even higher risk with pre-e. good luck to her!!

thanks for the info! im so hoping its nothing and she is just having an off week! Im assuming if she does, she most likely wont make it to full term but what worries me is that since its SO early on for pre-e (i think) is that they would have to take the baby WAY WAY to soon in order to do what is best for her. Im worried sick for her.

they wont deliver her unless her symptoms escalate and shes in danger, especially since the baby (barring a miracle) isnt viable at 21w. if she has all of these symptoms and they asked her to do the 24 hour.. it doesnt seem like an off week. they would only tell her to do the 24 hour if they found protein in the urine previously. normally that could be a UTI but with the other symptoms its def suspicious. when i had pre-e my feet swelled up like crazy and i had rapid weight gain too. if her #s arent good she could be looking at hospital bed rest to monitor everything. but be assured they would not deliver unless it was absolutely 100% necessary to cure the mom at this point. she stays stable and her #s are good!

Re: Anyone have pre-eclampsia early on?
Hopefully her 24 hour urine collection comes back normal, and if not, that the doctors are able to get things under control for her.
