Anyone have any tips for decorating a nursery on the cheap?

Now that we know we're having a , visions of sugarplums and nursery decorations are dancing in our heads...

I *REFUSE* to fall for the themed bedsets and accessories at BRU. They are REALLY cute, but

What are some less expensive ways to put together a cute nursery (wall decorations, lamps, etc.) without breaking the bank?

Mix and match pieces. I paid full price for the valances for DD's room but didn't bother with things like a crib comforter or crib bumpers since I knew I wouldn't use them anyways.

I bought a few nice changing pad covers in solid colors to match (we still use our changing table and DD is 2) Same with crib sheets.

I sat down and put together a list of "must haves" (crib sheets, changing pad covers) and "wants/unnecessary" (like a matching themed laundry basket, a plain one has worked just fine)

I registered for a lot of my stuff at Walmart. They are much cheaper than BRU and have a lot of the same/similar stuff.

I'm trying to only use BRU for what I have to. They are a total rip off.

I also got my crib and changing table at Target during a sale. It was rated A- in the new Baby Bargains book so I'm okay with getting my furniture there.

I went for the sheets at BRU. For this baby I wanted a star theme. But specific colors. I want Blue (It's a boy), green, and yellow stars. Work around that kind of something. Like pick three colors and work on accenting from there. I have found if you go with a color scheme you can work from there with accessorizing. Also Overstock has lots of cute bedding for decently priced. HTH.

Re buying a crib at Target

I bought mine in Walmart. It's the Baby Mod brand, which is actually made by Million Dollar Baby (which sells the same cribs under different names to stores like Land of Nod and Pottery Barn, it's also JC Penney's ABC line and the DaVinci line) , and is solid wood.

I had fallen love with a crib online, went to BRU and it was crap. The "solid" wood on the back which would have eventually become a headboard felt like cardboard instead of being solid. For 400 bux it should be a little sturdier than that.

The Target $1 bins have cute decorative stuff. My son's nursery is animal themed and I could have bought a LOT of stuff there if I already hadn't spent ridic money elsewhere.

target they have beautiful bedding now, mostly mix and match and really cute nursery decor

Not sure if you are a "crafty" person, but you can go to Michaels, AC Moore and places like that and find really cute stuff to decorate yourself.

Also, try Home goods and TJ Max.
