Anyone have any experience with Eczema?

My poor baby is 6 months old and has Eczema all over him. He doesn't look uncomfortable, but i read that it can be really itchy and irritating so i imagine he is uncomfortable. He keeps swatting behind his ears. We were at the Peds yesterday and she said it's eczema and to use Aquaphor and only bathe him twice a week. I have baby aquaphor so I put that all over him and i am going to get the Eucerin baby wash (right now we use Burt's bees) but is there anything else that might help him? He had these little bumps for a while on his belly and I thought it was from his diaper because he doesn't wake up in the middle of the night to be changed so sometimes he's wet all up his belly. But then it was everywhere this weekend. Behind his ears, arms, legs, belly, back. on his legs is the worst. I feel terrible...... Is there anything else i should be doing? The oed said to start with this and see how it goes......

my dd has it, but i think it is mild, ive only noticed it on her feet, some patches on her legs and stomach... and now that you mention it, she tugs on her ears alot... but my ped said to use hydrocortisone cream. its been working really well for us. she had a bad spot on her leg and it got noticeably better within 2 days and gone after less than a week of using it. when new spots pop up, I use that immediately!

My son had this as well. It turns out he had a lot of allergies and has allergy induced asthma but at 6 months old, we had no idea. We didn't find out until he was almost 2.

One of his allergies is to dogs (we have 2), as well as eggs, dust mites, peanuts and most likely seasonal allergies. His asthma is under control so we haven't had to re-home our dogs.

We used acquafor for his head..which was the worst area he experienced the Ecxema. I believe there is a steroid cream a ped can prescribe but I am not sure what age that is ok for.

DS has it and got much better as he has gotten older. THe Eucerin wash was great. And I still at 14 months only bathe him about 3 times a week unless he has an accident or soemthing.

I used Aveeno Eczema. He had some bad patches in his elbow and behind his knees. SOmetimes I even used a little cortizone 10 eczema.

I recommend taking him to a pediatric dermatologist and getting a steroid cream or ointment to clear it up. This was the only thing that helped with my son.

Thanks ladies. It's bad but it's not TERRIBLE. I am hoping not to use steroid creams on him. I am going to see how the Aquaphor works. I'll ask the ped about Hydrocortisone cream if it gets worse. Someone at work just told me about the allergy thing too. I'll ask the dr about that too if it gets worse. Thanks ladies!!!

My DS had it terrible as an infant and still has patches as a toddler. He'll be 2 next month.

We were told to use Cetaphil® RESTORADERM® Skin Restoring Body Wash. it made a big difference.

If you think he's itchy, oatmeal baths help.

I do recommend a pediatric derm. We see Dr. Kristal and he's wonderful. Gave us creams that literally worked in hours to clear him up. It was like magic. He's got two offices, we go to New Hyde Park.

Hey there - my DD is 4.5 months and has eczema for a few months now. She also has bad cradle cap and she scratches at her face and head sometimes…but not sure if it is bc she is itchy or if its just a baby thing.

Anyway she has it all over but it is the worst on her face, ankles and wrists. We tried Aquaphor and it did not work. I would suggest Eucerin cream - the one in the tub. Also a lot of ladies on here recommend CeraVe but I have not tried it yet. My ped said I could do 1% hydrocortisone cream which helps on DD's face. She also said she could call me in a prescription which I haven't done yet.

For baths we do every 3rd day. I was using J&J soap (the light yellow) which is supposed to be mild but switched to Cetaphil. Overall it doesnt matter, she just looks very irritated after baths.

Also make sure you are using dye free and fragrance free detergent.
