Anyone have a Wrangler?

What do you love/hate about it.

Currently have Grand Cherokee and looking to trade up.

Will probably test drive tomorrow.

I have heard that it's more bare bones, more rugged drive and not sure how good it is on gas compared to GC.

Open to both smaller and larger 4-door models.

DH and I thought about getting one - they really can be fun. But after being a passenger in one - I can say it was not at all comfortable. And it was for a work event - almost impossible to get in and out of in a skirt & heels (and that was in the 4-door model)

Re: Anyone have a Wrangler?

We had a 4door went to a liberty and will go back to a 4 door as soon as finances allow... It's def a rougher ride ... Depends on what you wanna use the truck for ... Long road trips eh prob not the best but we've done it no problems ... 4 wheeling on beach .. Def...
The Cherokee has comfort bells and whistles the wranglers more "work" minded in my mind ... I will have two kids age 3 and newborn and won't hesitate to go back to a wrangler but it's def a personal preference

Re: Anyone have a Wrangler?

I had a wrangler for 10 years in my pre-kid life. I loved it! It was red & it was my baby. It was definitely a rough ride. My friends were used to their smooth cars & would get thrown around in their seat. My car had roll down windows because the doors came off. Do all wranglers have roll down windows? Anyway, I sold it when I found out I was pregnant because there was no way I was putting my baby in one.

It's very much bare bones, only a few upgrades available, a much rougher ride, and a little worse on gas than the Grand Cherokee. It's definitely not built for comfort. Long drives can get a bit rough.

We got rid of ours because it was ridiculous having a rear facing car seat in there. Almost none of them fit, and the poor person in the passenger seat was squished up so far, made me super nervous. It was impossible to put a rear facing seat behind the driver and be able to drive comfortably and safe. It's also a pretty rough ride for kids, that was another negative for us.

They're fun though, and they are tanks, I always felt safe. I plan on getting one again when the kids are older and out of carseats.

ETA: I had the 4 door.

Definitely not planning to have more kids. DS is in school.

Some of my family have had and said th only major pain in the ass is changing the hard top to soft and storage...the hard top is a lot bigger than it looks, and you can only store it flat.

Totally forgot about the top because we never put the soft top on because we had no where to store it. We don't have a garage though.

I had one many moons ago. My son was around 5 years old. Back then they were really bare bones, mine was a 5 speed without power steering!
It was great in the snow and on the beach. I kept the hardtop off all summer.
DH and I rented one in Florida a couple of years ago and it was so rough, now when you take the doors off the side mirrors come off too, that's a not good. I'm too old for such a rough ride now. Lol!

Yeah I spoke to DH and he said he will really only consider the 4 door for us, because it seems more "family friendly" as far as Wranglers go.

Can the top come off on this model too? I feel like most people I see with this, it's hard top.

I looked online on the dealer site and it seems so but still like to hear reviews from real people.

Yes the tops come off on all wrangler versions it's just a matter of does the package include both tops. Our hardtop also has T tops so even though we haven't switched to the soft top for the summer yet we can still have a potion of the top off. It's a rough ride but nothing like the older ones. I had a 1988 version and it was tough to be in long distance.

Re: Anyone have a Wrangler?

We have a 4 door Wrangler. It is my husband's car at this point, but I used to drive it around. It is very comfy if you are sitting in the front, but the back can be a bit of a bumpy ride. It is more bare bones than some other cars, but it has more of a fun factor!

We like it since it isn't the car I drive the kids in all the time. Good for off roading. The take the top off option is nice (we have a hard and soft top. Hard for winter, soft for summer). We haven't done the top off in a while, but do the soft top folded half way cause the kids don't like the wind in the back. Taking the doors off is really fun too!

On a random note, the back of the soft top fits in place and then you have to zip up the side zips. I got lazy cause it was so easy just to flap the plastic window thing up and down when the side zips weren't zipped, so sometimes I didn't zip them. I totally got a raccoon in my car! He left footprints near the back door and ate all my kids' cheese puffs Chat Icon
