Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

I got it today!!! SO far I love it! Made a bottle of diet cola..it actually tastes really good and I usually don't drink diet coke.
The regular club soda is really good to. You can carbonate it as much as you like if you like a lot or a little bubbles.

I'm going to try it tonight hopefully, but do have to say I am disappointed in the regular soda mixes because after reading the labels, I see that they all contain Splenda.

I am pregnant (but really in general) I stay away from any sugar substitutes. Sadly I will be returning my lemon lime & root beer mixesChat Icon I do have the natural ones to make flavored seltzer though which is good. Wonder if I can buy coke syrup or something similar, Chat Icon

Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

if they come out with natural extracts i might invest in this. I do love just club soda with some lime/lemon so its kinda a cool concept. DH's father owned a A&W rootbeer restaurant and he membership making soda as a kid so i wanted to get it for him but we are so overweight its kinda scary to have it in the house just like a deep fryer LoL

Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

I got one for DH for Christmas and we love it! I'm not a big soda drinker and that's all I drank yesterday. It just tastes so fresh. I got him the most basic one and it works great. The sodastream site has the co2 cartidges too. I think you can also recycle the canisters at BB&B. We haven't gotten that far yet.

Of course we decided to try to carbonate things other than water. BIG MISTAKE. We did orange juice... let's just say I'm still finding spray patterns of OJ gone bad in the most remote parts of the kitchen. But the 5 sips of it that were left in the bottle was the best homemade orangina I've ever had!

Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

I got DH one for Xmas and he loves it. He and the girls drink cases(3-5) of seltzer every week. Also he drinks lots of very $$ energy drinks. So I bought him the energy drink mix. So far, he is in love!

Is the Sodastream a new thing? Here in the UK its considered the most kitsch thing as it was really popular in the 1970's...but I noticed that they have rebranded and built a new, modern looking machine. I love the idea, but would totally cheap out of buying cartridges.

This looks really cool. I don't drink a ton of soda but this would be a cool gift for DH, or the ILs (they drink a lot of soda).

Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

This thread is making me debate whether or not to get one. We drink a ton of seltzer in the house. My DH goes through about 2-3 liters a day.

Re: Anyone have a sodastream maker?

This thing doesn't seem cost-efficient.

The syrup packs make (or so it says on Amazon) about 12 litres and they cost about $10-12 a piece.

Plus you have to pay the upfront cost for the machine... and then replace the bottles every 60 litres.

So I mean - a cool gadget but not really efficient if you are a heavy soda drinker.

I just know that we drink a ton of soda and try not to buy it when it isn't on sale -- we'll wait til they're around $1.25 for a 2litre and then stock up.

Just something to think about.

It is $4.99 for the mix that makes 12 liters. You can get it at Bed Bath with the 20% off coupon or $5 off a $15 purchase so it is like buy 2 get one free. It is actually a lot cheaper IMO. Especially when you use the energy drink mix. Red Bulls and Monsters are a fortune!
