I have an odd situation. I have an oil system that just died. I am a planning to put in a geothermal system starting within the next month, but I don't know exactly when. It's getting cold so I need some form of heat to tide me over. I can't get natural gas as it would cost a fortune to bring it in.

So, ...I am thinking of getting a propane gas furnace installed in the interim. It could be used again as a back up system to the geo for whenever LIPA loses power in my area, so that might be good.

But, are they wildly expensive to run? Propane seems to be selling for anywhere from $1.99 a gallon plus delivery charges, to $4.50 a gallon, delivery included.

I'd appreciate hearing from anyone who has a propane furnace.
