granite and backsplash? we are not replacing cabinets, just the counters, new sink and a back splash!

Re: anyone have a good recommendation for
We have a friend who works in tile and he told us to go to Lowes (but, we kept it basic because we're planning to have the kitchen completely redone down the road).
ETA - This was for backsplash. We did get our counter from Lowes but, we used a marbled looking formica.

If you are looking for granite I highly recommend Alcamo granite in Commack. Great selection!

DH and I went to Home Depot (just because its closer than Lowes). DH does all that stuff so luckily we don't have to use a contractor. If you don't want to spend a lot I reccommend doing it yourself if you can or finding someone who will do it inexpensively. Depending on how big the space and what you pick it can be done for a super reasonable amount. DH and I picked ours and it will prob end up costing us about 75 bucks total. But then again, we aren't paying someone for labor. Labor is where the cost comes in.

Re: anyone have a good recommendation for
marble.com just opened in Deer Park - I liked them there (a guy named Miguel helped us) and they had an OK selection. They do the fabricating there too. I went with my mom for her granite.
For my own home - we went with E&S Granite in Farmingdale for the fabricators, and got our slab from European Marble and Granite also in Farmingdale. Very pleased with both.
For backsplash - I would go to HD or Lowes like you said.
