Re: ANYONE HAVE A CAT THAT'S...

I have 3 cats, two 10 year olds and a 15 year old, all indoors and all big babies. I already have a bassinett in the living room filled with some baby clothes and blankets we bought so they get used to the stuff being around. I know it sounds silly, I worked as a vet assistant for awhile, but I'm going to carry around a baby doll a few weeks before the baby comes, and have my DH bring home a baby blanket from the hospital after giving birth so they can get used to the baby's smells before we come home.

We have 5 cats - one as young as 3 years old and quite frisky. I've been scratched, but only if I try to pick them up - they don't like it and it only really happens if they see the pet carrier when we take them to the Vet. I'm doing pretty much the same as shazza211 - we will set up the crib in the coming weeks and the baby blanket thing too. I'm not worried about the cats with the baby at all. A lot of my friends have cats with young babies and no one has had a problem in fact one of my friends told me her cats want nothing to do with either of her young boys. You just have to supervise the baby with the cat, but I think that's pretty common sense. Take it slow and make sure to dote plenty of affection on your kitty so that they know they are still part of the family. I think it will be a lot of fun to have such a full family of children and pets. I'm sure the pets will provide lots of entertainment and love to my kids. As my kids grow they will have to be taught what is appropriate and what is not with the cats - like picking them up. I was scratched by a neighbors cat when I was about 4 b/c I knew nothing about cats and I went to pet the cat's belly. Well, needless to say - I survived. Try to find out why the cat would bite though - I've heard of cats who bite, although of my 5 none of them do that. Talk to your Vet... my Vet has 5 cats, twins and a new baby too. They can give you lots of advice.

Re: ANYONE HAVE A CAT THAT'S...

i have a cat, he's declawed but still play bites with me and DH (i call them love bites because they are so gentle). i am not worried about it that much because he responds to reprimands very well, and his bites never hurt. i am more worried about the baby hurting him than i am with him hurting the baby Chat Icon

Re: ANYONE HAVE A CAT THAT'S...

I have three cats and two are as young as a little over a year and half.

One is not so much frisky as lovable. He likes to kneed on you with this claws which can be painful. He doesnt do it with me. just my hubby. The other kitten is very claw-happy she always goes claws first but most likes to be left alone.

I am more concerned with the lovable one cause he is so loud and meows for everything, food, love, playtime, etc. He'll probably wake up the baby.

The oldest is also a solo type cat.

I intend to set up the crib, etc early as well.
