Anyone go into labor at work?

Figured more people could answer here than on the pregnancy board since everyone here has already had their DC!

I know it can happen anywhere, but mostly everyone I knew went into labor at home. I am starting to get nervous about making it to the hospital if I go into labor at work since I work in the city and this is DC2.

So, did anyone go into labor at work? If so, how did you get to the hospital?

My water broke at work, but I was not in active labor. I really could have driven myself to the hospital, but my coworker did, and my DH and SIL picked up my car a couple of days later. I had my hospital bag in the car, so I grabbed it when we left.

This was one of my fears bc I work in a school. Luckily my water broke both times at home. Towards the end of my pregnancy I wore a pad just in case and had a change of pants and towel with me. My principal made it clear that no one from work could drive me to the hospital so I planned on my sister to come and get me bc she was the closet to my school. I read on other threads that some were going to call a taxi if no one could drive them.

Thanks guys. I work in the city, so I won't have a car for anyone to drive me. I am having visions of my baby being born in a taxi on the side of the LIE!

I was in labor the whole day and didn't realize it til about an hour left to the day. I finished up the day, gave everyone my notes and such for when I was gone and drove myself home. It was just the beginning stages of labor. I didn't go to the doctor til after midnight.

This was my biggest fear, too. However, I went into labor when I was home alone. I was totally in denial, though, that I was in labor, so I drove myself into the city (from Queens)!

You can worry all you want, but it's going to happen when and where it will happen. Might as well just live your life. And if you do go into labor while you're at work, I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to help you. Or, just call a car service to get you where you need to be.

Most people's water never breaks (it's done at the hospital). And most of the people who's water does break, it happens at home, usually at night.

Also, i think you'd usually feel contractions hours, or even days, before the water breaks so you'd have time to get home.

Obviuosly there's always a chance, but it's fairly small, i'd say.

I agree with the previous poster that you should continue to live your life.
I was told that you'll know when labor is coming...I thought it was total bs but turns out it was true for me and others. I woke up with contractions at 4am but they passed shortly. I had a feeling that was the day and sure enough at 9pm it was! If you feel up to working I would, but if you wake up not feeling well (or go to sleep one night but feeling well) take the day off to be safe. Also if you are at work and start contracting, go home, don't push yourself.

I haven't yet but I'm actually hoping to this time. I work in the city amd myhospital is in the ccity and I live in ct. Both my labors have been overnight labors wirh morning deliveries. I'd love a daytime labor and late afternoon early evening delivery this time around. That would likely have me going into labor early morning at home or at work. Then I would already be close to the hospital.

I didn't go into labor with my second at work, but it did start when I should have been there (4pm). I was supposed to work 3pm-9pm that night, but I called in & told them that I'd be in at 5pm because it was my due date & I was just plain old exhausted. I had no other signs of labor when I made the call, but I'm glad that I did & that I was home when it started lol

Yes. I had to drive home to Huntington from Brooklyn to get DH. It wasn't fun but at least it was easier that I drove in so I could have pulled over if I needed to. I went home, packed a bag, did a self-pedicure, and then we sped to the hospital.

ETA: You don't always know when u r going into labor. I was only 36 weeks and dismissed the contractions as BH. I even called my sister on my way to work and she said it didn't sound like I was in labor.

If you can, drive in. I'd hate to be stuck on the LIRR.

I'm terrified of this as well- last time Ds was born about 30 minutes after I got o the hospital- who knows if I'll make it this time and it woud be annoying/embarrassing for all that to happen at work lol

Me, I drove myself to the hospital (45 mins). My water didn't break but I had minor contractions and bleeding

With my 2 younger DC I went into labor at work. With DS I felt a pop then within minutes I began contracting. He was delivered by emergency csection at 35w. With DD I went to work just feeling off and I started contracting around 9am. I worked my shift went to take a final (I was earning my masters). Left school went home and called my OB. Got to the hospital and I was 4cm dilated. A repeat csection was done. I was 36 weeks.
