Anyone fight a ticket from NYC Dept. of Sanitation?

Got a ticket last night from an offense I don't believe that we did - placing recyclable material in a trash bin, instead of our recycling bin.

I'm SUPER eco-conscious...not to say that we didn't possibly slip up and put the bag of bottles in the trash bin, but our plastic/glass recycling bin is completely different looking from our trash bin...so the chances of that happening are slim.

It makes me think that someone passing by or cleaning out their car chucked it in there, after we had put the trash to the curb that night. And it's like...once the bins are to the curb, anyone can put anything in there, KWIM?

It's only a $25 fee...which is really less than I expected when I read through it...but it's the principle of the issue! I'm REALLY SURE that we didn't do this!

Part of me wants to fight it, part of me says "to hell with it, just mail a check in"...DH says just pay it and move on. I have a few days left off for the year, where if I don't use 'em, I lose 'em, so it's not much of a 'waste of time' thing...I can use a day to go to fight it, LOL.

Has anyone ever fought a DOS ticket? Experiences?

I used to work for a property management comapny and part of my duties were taking care of tickets like this. And our argument is what you said. Basically, unless you had every single bag of garbage in the wrong bin you can argue that what they were referring to must have been put in the bin after you put your trash to the curb.



Its kind of a crap shoot on whether or not you will get it reversed tho.

Maybe I will bring my diploma from the HIGH SCHOOL FOR ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES with me so they know I mean BIZNESS.
