Anyone ever rent a timeshare at Disney? or other arrangements?
We'll have so many in our party - hopefully - that Id rather just rent a place than go to a hotel.
For now I'm thinking to just take care of me, hubby, AJ and my step aunt & uncle. So four adults. So far I've found a place that will sleep 6 comfortably at the Wilderness Lodge for $1850 (ish) a week. But that's an add on their site.. not sure it will hold up, ya know?
I know I've looked before at renting a home for around $1500 a week with more rooms in Orlando but we'd have to rent a car, where as staying on campus would save that part of the expense.
Finally, am I crazy to start pondering arrangments well over a year in advance? haha

Rent a house! VRBO.com. We rented one in Kisssimmee(sp?) I think it was around 1000 for 7 days and split it with 3 families. VERY reasonable. And it had a pool and hot tub
ETA-I would try to find a car on priceline for cheap. There are forums where people will post what they got for pricing on priceline so you know what you can bid...

We have a timeshare off property at the Sheraton Vistana Villages. They are HUGE. The grounds are very nice as well, they have a couple of very nice pools and activities for kiddies.
They do have shuttles to/from Disney but, we usually rent a car.
It's about a 10 minute drive to the Disney property.
There is also the Sheraton Vistana Resort which is a tiny bit closer to Disney, has shuttles but, isnt' as new as the Villages. We stayed there once as well.

I have a time share at Orange Lake..Lots to do there. I know you can rent one but not sure how much. Also if you sit on an hour tour of them trying to sell you one I believe they give you free Disney Tickets

Free tickets for an hour of my time may work. I think I can fit that in the day we arrive so we can use the tickets later

We stayed here (at the SheratonVistana Resort) last year through out vacation club with an exchange ...
Cannot say enough good things about it...It was excellent ! They have a rule that you can only stay there once every 4 years (with my vacation club) thats how sought after it is...Highly reccomend

House rentals are great down there. And car rentals are cheap...

The Sheraton also gives you some sort of theme park related bonus for sitting through their presentation.
We went in Feb and it was $100 towards Planet Hollywood (but, we could've changed it - we opted to do that because we met friends who were staying on Disney grounds and had the meal plan).

Yeah that meal plan is a huge reason for me to rethink where we are staying.

It really depends on what perks you want. If you want the WDW perks (dining plan, extra magic hours, magical express - where they pick up your luggage and it appears in your room, etc) I would look into renting points from a DVC member. Look at disboards.com - it is a posting site that has a lot of great info and I know there is a DVC area that includes how to rent point etc.
If you don't care about those perks - then there are a lot of good places people on here mentioned. You will want a car though b.c off site the shuttles generally aren't reliable. Just remember if you stay off site you have to pay to park at the parks - if you stay on site parking at the parks is free. So make sure to add that to your budget when you determine which to go with.
