exactly, equally crowded as NY, but the pace is very laid back

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
Lived in Northern California for many years, but visited LA area quite a bit. I enjoyed visiting, but don't think I would want to live there. I think there is something to the stereotype that people are somewhat superficial and the traffic, OMG the traffic!
On the plus side, the weather is great and the beaches are beautiful.

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
We went for our honeymoon and it was definitely like NY but more laid back. Also it is very expensive, even more than NY. And very hilly, I was freaking out having a panic attack driving on the hills to go see the hollywood sign, there is nothing to stop ya from going over and the roads were narrow!! But it is beautiful there, the houses were gorgeous!!

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
good to know...my company has purchased two schools on the west coast and will be re-opening them up under our name. They are looking for people to go work in either the LA campus or the hollywood one. I am trying to figure out if this is something I want to pursue.

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
I was there twice on vacation. The smog is horrible and traffic worse...and the hollywood area is dirty and has a lot of bad areas. I hated it. I loved San Francisco though. Totally different.

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
I visted LA numerous times (business related) and 1 time (vacation) and I gotta say, it just was NOT for me
Anthony grew up in California, outside of Anaheim (in a town called Walnut) and while he had an awesome childhood/high school years, he said he would/could never live there again
When I was in LA, I was working out of a lawfirm about 1/2 hour away from LA (Cerritos) Personally, I just could not deal with the people there for some reason .. as others here have said, I found them MUCH more shallow/superficial than NYers are (and we NYers can be superficial, lets face it).. their work ethic was poor IMO, everyone IS a wannabee... and I honestly did not like the areas surrounding LA whatsoever... not impressed
And as someone else said, LA real estate is just as expensive as NY, perhaps even more so. THe ONLY area of California I could ever imagine living in is San Fransico (beautiful there).. and the real estate in SF is OUTRAGEOUS!
Just my opinion, i'm sure others love CA/LA

California weather is so much better than NY though.
50-60 degrees in the winter. Gotta love it!

my sister lives there too and she says the same thing. also, the traffic there is RIDICULOUS! And the cost of living seems to be even higher than NY!

Re: Anyone ever live in L.A.?
I know someone through another site who is a mortgage broker and works in Cali, and I've been blown away by the prices she's mentioned. I really think it is worse than NY, actually. But it's definitely bad, real-estate wise.
I'd also worry about earthquakes, but then again, you've been pummeled pretty hard by hurricanes so you know how that goes.
