Anyone ever get RED highlights?
I have dark dark brown hair and I'm starting to see more grays than I'd like
I was thinking of putting red highlights in my hair- but I'm not sure how that would be.
I'm not a fan of blonde highlights in dark brown hair, so it's either red or dying my whole head.
I've been told it's too soon to start dying as the grays aren't really noticable- but I notice them and it drives me nuts.
Anyone have any before/after pics?
Thanks!

I think about it all the time. I'm so tired of going lighter (I have dark brown hair).
I always think about going red....think for the fall it could be cool....something different.

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
red is a hard color to keep in your hair and when you want to get rid of it its hard to cover up!
i went red once and my roots were terrible bc it was so obvious against my dark brown hair. i did LOVE it though. as long as you dont mind the upkeep, go for it!

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
I have very dark brown with red undertones. When I was a teenager I got red highlights and they came out like FRUIT PUNCH red like Never Campbell in Scream (it was around the same time).
I don't dye my hair now bc like you I do not want blonde and red makes me nervous. I was thinking of a lighter brown--not blonde.
Red can look awesome though if you go to a good place that will take any red undertones in your hair into account

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
i am a redhead :) been a highlighted blonde and crazy colors alot in my life and i sooo dig my red.
imo if you are a dark brown...red/warm highlights would be a wonderful option to ease into some color. if done right and the right tone...its not that hard to maintain and easy to cover up. all over red is more difficult but fab none the less.
if you need any suggestions please let me know xoxo

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
I get redish/caramelish highlights. I am not sure how do describe the collor but actually very VERY few people know how to do them. I used to go to a women who have since moved back to London where she from but she did auburn highlight on me and they were amazing.
Now, every time I go for highlight I have to explain very very specifically exactly what I want to achieve or rather, what I DON'T want to end up with. My biggest fear is to end up with blond highlight. I am a brunette and my hair is actually dark brown with reddish undertones so I always want to point that out to the colorist and tell them that I DO NOT, under any circumstances, want to end up looking like Paris Hilton. It has happened before and it was NOT a good look on me! I always always ask for them to be very thin because I feel that it looks more natural and more sophisticated.
I can figure out how to post pictures from my mac... but I only have an after anyway.

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
I have chestnut brown hair with auburn undertones, and I once got dark red highlights. I thought it looked good and it didn't look too noticeable growing out. Definitely go to a good person though.

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
I had them done last winter. I have very dark brown hair and the red looked amazing! I cant find any pictures but beleive me it was RED lol It was VERY hard to keep up, special shampoo, had to rince with cool water, and was getting the red redone every few weeks.
On thing to keep in mind is that when you want to get rid of the red it is a HUGE pain. It took my girl forever, a lot of bleach, and cost her some grey hairs.

Re: Anyone ever get RED highlights?
Keri, I had red high lights put into my hair in 2008, before Debi's wedding, and I liked them!!! Want to get them again, to cover my gray. Mary
