Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
Im debating what to do, not that im gonna start making it now cuz baby doesnt need right a way. But we have a full finished basement with 2 bedrooms a living room and kitchen. We were thinking of turning one room into a play room.. since downstairs is our living area and upstairs is our sitting room. Just dont know if it is even practical. Thought i would see what you all think

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
I have a feeling my entire house is going to be a playroom!
But her room is fairly large, so there's plenty of room for her there. I also have a room right off the kitchen with a big entry way into it, that will most likely be the true playroom. We also have a den and a finished basement.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
Right now we have a small room across from my bedroom that my DD is using as her palyroom (more of a mess room..lol) Little does she know that she is losing that room to the baby. She has a really big bedroom upstairs, so her stuff is going to have to start going up there.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
Nope! Our house is too small. But DH is talking about eventually finishing the basement. We shall see. Our plan is to eventually move out of our "starter house" but you never know.......

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
DD is 2 1/2 and I have her playroom on the main floor off the dining room/living room. I opted not to put it in the basement because I'd never be able to leave her down there by herself at such a young age. With this location, I can wash the dishes, make dinner, sit in the living room, and she can play with her toys. I'm not in the same room and my eyes aren't on her, but I'm still monitoring her. When she's older we may relocate it to the basement.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
In order to avoid the toy explosion throughout your house, if you have the space, I definately recommend a playroom. I do agree with PPs though that where it is will probably depend on the child's age. My DD is 2. We don't have a playroom right now, but if we did I don't think I'd want it on a different level than the regular living space. As she gets older, that will be fine. But for now, I like to be able to hear what she's doing and be just a few steps away from her. I personally am not a big fan of storing toys in her bedroom -- I think she needs to know that the bedroom is for sleeping & dressing. I intend to continue this into her teen years -- as my mother used to put it, "We do NOT entertain in the bedroom!" so I don't want her getting used to playing in there.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
On a related note, aimed at the BTDT moms, how do you avoid the "toy explosion"? I think DH and I can control what we will buy, but what about from others? will be spending a lot of time with his grandparents and they plan to make the downstairs of their house a playroom so I will also plan on bringing a lot of stuff there as well, to share with his twin cousins ;).

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
Sorry to barge in, but I have 1 DS and I am really thankful for our playroom. I can not imagine what my house would look like without it.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
we just bought a house and we are in middle of remodeling, but we do have a playroom. My DH is a neat freak, therefore a playroom was necessary.

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
We have a finished basement and thank god the playroom is down there! I couldn't live with toys all over my living space. I would go nuts. If you could find a space and make it a playroom, definitely do it...

Re: Anyone eventually gonna have a playroom
right now our bedroom is on the first floor, we have 2 bedrooms upstairs that we need to renovate, and then we'll move our room up there and make our current bedroom a playroom or just a catchall for all the baby stuff that takes over our house! hopefully we can get all that done before baby is here!!
